The 24/25 South Season Duck Opener is about to kick off with good expectations in the forecast. Think this will be another good season down here on the coast. Seeing some redheads and pintails starting to migrate into bay systems. Actually saw some Rudy ducks, teal, pintails and redheads on a recent fishing charter. According to Ducks Unlimited the 2024 waterfowl population survey showed an increase in breading ducks for the first time since 2015. On October 15 -TPWD biologists reported an increase in duck numbers also. Anyways, think it's going to be a good season down here around South...

We just need cold fronts to push the northern birds down to us.
Fishing down here in South Padre Island has been steady. We've been concentrating on mangrove snappers lately. They are fantastic eating and are very plentiful. The wind has been blowing quite hard down here so I've been in the ship channel quite a bit staying out of the wind. When the wind dies down, I'm able to sneak offshore. Last Saturday we had a beautiful day. I ran 6 miles offshore and we landed about 75 red snapper, quite a few short fish, being that it is towards the end of the season, but the action bite was fantastic. Caught...

Caught one really nice cobia and had a couple others on that broke off. For duck hunting with the extreme warm temperatures all over the country the ducks have really not shown up yet. Minnesota is finally starting to freeze at night. I know Colorado has got snow everywhere so the duck should be on their way soon. Speaking of ducks for you birders, we have beautiful Roseate spoonbill gathering for picture perfect photos. The dolphin enthusiasts, we have plenty of playful dolphins on view each boat ride.
My wife and I took off this morning a little later than we usually head out, we went looking for mangrove snapper. a delicious eating fish that are very numerous down here in South Padre Island I didn’t take very good pictures, but we caught anywhere from 25 to 30 of them in a couple hours on live shrimp. This is a fantastic trip for kids or adults that just wanna catch lots of fish .

Fishing continues to be good. Redfish are starting to show up on the flats in herds. Trout continue to be biting well. If you can get out on a day that the wind is light they fishing has been awesome.

The bay fishing throughout the past week has been a little tougher due to the heavy rains. Still catching speckled trout on both live and artificial baits. Larger soft plastics in natural mullet colors have been more productive. Try to find some baitfish and the larger fish should be in close proximity. Deeper water has also been yielding some larger redfish. The shallow grass flats are active towards the north end of the bay. Seeing some black drum on the calmer days. Should get better as the fresh water works its way out of the bay.

The bay has recently been flooded with rainfall recently. The fishing has remained stable. Catching speckled trout on both live baits and soft plastic artificial worms. Larger swim baits have seemed to be the ticket in darker colors. Redfishing has been more spotty. There are some schools if you can locate them. Black drum are cruising deeper water in schools. Been catching a few flounder along drop offs and shorelines. Expect the bite to get better as weather stabilizes.

Capt. Todd, and his First Mate Fernando, provided a trip that exceeded any expectations we could’ve had (6hr charter) for a first timers trip. Capt. Todd put us on fish all day, while Fernando expertly assisted 3 absolute beginners, helping us reel in a sailfish as the first fish of the day (catch and release). It didn’t seem like very long before we were on the red snapper and getting bites left and right, hitting our limit quick. Can’t recommend them enough and already thinking about that next trip!

Awesome fella! Had a fun day with a group of guys last Wkend . Ended up booking a second trip with him since we limited out on trout and redfish , even picked up a few flounder and some huge trout we had to throw back . Highly recommend . He has a 25’ Majek with plenty room and a great ride .
Marc and Brandi were a great team. We got on the fish quick and had a limit of trout by 10. The boat is in excellent condition and had plenty of space for the three of us to fish. They had multiple rigs set up to use as the conditions changed. I would book again without hesitation.
Had a great day with Captain Ron, we all caught fish, some big trout. He’s very personable and patient with newbie’s. Our family will definitely come back and fish with him again.
