This week we had Hurricane Fiona and the Tarpon are eating aggressive. The North and Northeast of the Island are running 100%. Our Tarpon are resident Tarpon so we have them all year around. We are famous for the amount of Juvenile Tarpon in ours two Lagoons (San Jose and Torrecillas Lagoons). Average size are from 5 lbs to 20 lbs, but sometimes the BIg boys can wake up and fish are in the 50 lbs to 100 lbs

People often have the misconception that it's to hot to be in the Florida Keys is the Summer time which is completely false. As central and northern Florida has daily average temperatures reaching 100 plus degrees the summer time average in the Keys is right around 85 with light breezes and perfect sight fishing conditions for Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Sharks and so many more. From mid August to mid October is the quite season here in South Florida so come enjoy some fishing and resorts all to your selfs.

Great fishing continues around Wrightsville beach with many different opportunities, from Spanish mackeral to great flounder fishing, red drum a few speckled trout and Tarpon are in the area. Expect great fishing for old drum citation size and fantastic Spanish mackerel and false albacore casting opportunities aswell. Tarpon can be caught but it’s a very specialized trip. If you’d like to book a Tarpon trip before the end of August call in to the team at Captain Experiences to hear about availability and pricing. Though there are September opportunities for Tarpon, our focus switches back to the trout. As Speckled Tout fishing starts getting really good as well as big reds.

Inshore fishing in sarasota continues to remain very good. We are bringing home limits of mangrove snapper that are finishing out their spawn, the snapper will continue to bite for the next few weeks as we transition into our fall pattern. Snook are starting to make their way back into the bay and are transitioning getting ready to head back into the creeks and rivers. We are catching decent size snook at the higher stages of the tide around mangroves. Shots at juvenile Tarpon are being had early in the morning as they roll on the surface. Spotted sea trout are starting to make good showings on the edges of deeper grass flats, some smaller schools of Spanish mackerel and bluefish are also around the deeper grass flats. We are catching plenty of live white bait in the morning and that has proven to be key for a successful trip.

August has arrived signifying the heat is still on and this tends to be the hottest month for South Florida. If you can’t beat the heat, at least beat the fish in a tug of war match. Windy conditions for the local palm beaches continued until the end of this past weekend, finally giving anglers a reprieve from turbulent conditions. Snook fishing has been excellent along channel edges, docks, and sea walls. Moving water equals hungry fish. Live baits and DOA C.A.L. 3" shad tail have been the baits of choice. Snook are ranging in size from 2 to 25 pounds. Tarpon fishing has been hit and miss past week. I believe slower bite contributed to south wind and dirty water. Incoming tide cleaner water fish seemed to be happier taking live baits and DOA Terror Eyz worked along the bottom. Deep holes and channel edges still offering jacks, bluefish, mackerel, snapper, sharks and many other species. Live baits great way to get fish fired up, but top water Rapala skitter walks and DOA C.A.L. 3" shad tail also trigger strikes.

Fishing report from Chip W. in Jacksonville Beach, Florida

Legal size redfish are spotty but still in good numbers. With the shrimp run ramping up, it can be a little testy getting a consistent bite. But flounder are starting to show in great numbers- fish are still on the smaller side but great action. Tarpon fishing continues to be red hot in northeast Florida with fish ranging from 40 to 100 lbs. Bull reds are showing in good numbers in the St Johns river as well with the average fish in the 40in range!

Lower keys flats fishing is still on fire, tarpon can be found on calmer mornings and a few straggler migrators can be found traveling. As the sun gets higher bonefish and permit can be found on any of the respective flats so long as the water doesnt get to hot. Unfortunately low pressure systems are more abundant this time of year which brings a lot of wind clouds and rain which makes it hard to see some of the fish on the flats.

Tarpon and snook action has been steady on high tides and at night during big moon days. We expect it to stay active until September. In the big game waters yellowfin tuna is a secure catch and blue marlin have been slow but they are giants (500 lbs +). As female blue marlin are already in our waters September and October promises a steady 3-5 fish per day fish ranging between 300-600 lbs.
