Captain Von is a seasoned fisherman who truly knows the waters of the Intracoastal Waterways off Ocean Isle Beach, Holden Beach, Shallotte River as well as the ocean beyond the inlets. Finding the perfect fishing spots requires patience, skill and experience. Whether you are a fishing expert or a first timer, Captain Von invites those of all skill levels. He is adept at knowing the signs and seeing where the fish are located. He knows the lures and bait that attract different types of fish. He'll teach you how to make them effective in getting the fish to bite.

What’s the biggest fish you’ve caught?

Can’t believe you’re asking me this, I’m a fisherman. It would have to be the 200lb Redfish… No pictures, the camera broke.

If you were cooking for all your friends what would you cook?

Probably, celery and carrots… Most of my friends are really over weight.

What’s your favorite band?

The one I’m playing keyboard or bass in at the time. I do like my Southern Gospel music. BEM

How did you get started guiding?

I took one soldier fishing many years ago and believe it or not, the phone started ringing on a regular basis from other Veterans. I guess my decision was made for me to acquire my Captain’s License and try to pay some bills in the process.

What makes you different from other guides?

I’m friendly and do my best to make sure our clients have a fantastic experience on the water… Hmmm… I guess you could say, I’m better looking than other Captains, but that would definitely be lying.

With years of experience fishing along the Cape Fear Coast, he’ll tailor the trip to the style of fishing you enjoy most—trolling, casting, bottom fishing, jigging, or live bait fishing—so you get the experience you’re looking for.

Your ride for the day is the Intruder 21, a custom-built Dream Boats design that holds four world records. With its ultra-shallow draft (7–8 inches) and ability to run in less than 4 inches of water, it can reach skinny backwater creeks and hidden marsh channels that bigger boats can’t touch—all while delivering one of the smoothest, driest rides you’ll ever experience. Equipped with a powerful Minn Kota 112 trolling motor and anchor lock, you’ll be able to quietly hold position right over the bite.

On this inshore trip, you’ll explore the Intracoastal Waterway, salt marshes, and tidal creeks in search of Red Drum, Black Drum, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Sheepshead, and more, depending on the season. With Captain Von’s local knowledge, every stop is a hand-picked hot spot with the potential for bent rods and big smiles.

Everything you need for a successful trip is included—rods, reels, bait, tackle, fishing license, life preservers, safety gear, and even ice and packing for your catch. All you need to bring is a light jacket, sunscreen (no spray), sunglasses, snacks, and your favorite drinks.
