Guided by John Abel
Deep Sea Nearshore
Captain John Abel is USCG licensed with over 29 years charter experience and has adventurously fished from the African Coast to the various Alaskan seas, and just about every lake, river and ocean in between. He started deck-handing out on Lakes Erie and Ontario at the age of 9 with his father, learning to charter everything from walleye and yellow perch on Lake Erie to Kings, Steelhead and Coho on Lake Ontario. Joining the Coast Guard out of high school and expanding his knowledge, he began fishing commercially on the Chesapeake Bay and deck-handing out of Virginia Beach. During this time, he also took the opportunity to spend 5 months off the coast of Africa catching Marlin, Tuna and everything else the sea is home to. This experience fishing various places and learning techniques, tips and tricks put him on the fast track to being one of the best. He ventured out on his own in 2013, building a reputation as one of the best captains on Kodiak Island, AK. After 7 solid seasons chasing massive halibut, salmon and lingcod, the opportunity came to move back to the East Coast and to fulfill a burning desire to run with the best, chasing the monsters of the deep blue. Captain John eats, sleeps, and breathes fishing and has a knack for finding fish when no one else can. A day on the water with him is sure to be safe, fun, and exciting—no matter where you are on the open sea.
Went above and beyond just taking us fishing . Told our group a good place to stay , a few places to enjoy dinner and then took us out to catch some big fish .
Recently took us out and overall a great experience! Really cool guy and goes above and beyond to catch fish for you! Thanks for the kindness towards WWP!
Captain John does an amazing job of puting you on the fish. He is motivated and loves what he does. Trolling was slow on our trip so he took us where we could get some action and meat. It was an awesome day on the water and he and his mate made it a great trip. We all left with sore arms and full coolers. Thanks John, can’t wait to get down to fish with you guys again! …
I took my son on the all day trip. We stopped and fished for tile fish on the way out, and then headed further out forMarlin. We had 2 Marlin hits but were not able to land them. Both my son and I had a great day, and I recommend this trip if you are considering it. Due to the length of the trip and the run out and back, I would not recommend this for smaller kids. …
Overall awesome day with captain John and Eddy fishing for amberjack! We caught our live bait before heading about 20 miles offshore to where the magic happened. I had never experienced anything like it being from PA fishing streams. The amberjack bit often and fought hard. After blowing through live bait we troll fished and caught some barracuda albacore and kingfish. John and Eddy are great guys who love what they do. Their level of excitement made it all the more exciting for us. …
