About Your Trip
Spend a day on the water with Captain Rod, fishing the bays and backwaters around Sargent and Matagorda, Texas. With more than 20 years of experience fishing the Matagorda Bay system, Captain Rod knows the area well and enjoys sharing it with anglers of all experience levels.
Depending on conditions and your goals for the day, you'll fish a variety of habitats, including open bays and shallow back lakes, while targeting species such as Speckled
Trout, Redfish, Flounder, and Black Drum. A range of fishing techniques may be used throughout the trip, allowing Captain Rod to adapt to changing conditions and fish activity.
You'll be fishing from a 25' bay boat equipped with GPS, VHF radio, night vision equipment, livewells, and coolers. The boat offers plenty of seating and provides a stable platform for fishing throughout the day.
This trip is suitable for all skill levels and is child-friendly, whether you're introducing someone to fishing for the first time or spending the day with experienced anglers.
Trips commonly begin around 7:00 AM, with additional departures available as early as 2:30 AM. Departure times are flexible and can often be adjusted based on your schedule and fishing goals.
Rods, reels, tackle, and bait are all included, and fish cleaning is included if you decide to keep your catch. You're welcome to bring drinks along, and canned beer is allowed onboard.
We recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, and anything else you'd like to have with you for the day.
