Independent Guide 31 years of exp.
Captain Richard passion for the water started as a young child running the brackish waters of the San Bernard River and Intercoastal waterways along the upper and middle Texas Coast. Eventually, Captain Richard found himself as a teenager wading coves and shorelines of the Galveston Bay Complex with his closest friends who shared the same passion.

Years later, moving away from conventional angling, Captain Richard picked up a fly rod and immediately fell in love.

Ever since, his true passion has remained sight casting at tailing or backing Redfish in the surrounding marsh and sand flats of our beloved Upper Texas Coast. The Galveston Bay system provides ample opportunity for sight casting and stalking your favorite gamefish with a fly rod in hand.

Captain Richard has been fortunate enough to fish with guides in many different countries in the South Pacific, Caribbean and Central America that have fueled his passion for fly fishing, and Captain Richard strives to share that passion and knowledge with you while we traverse the local waters in search of Redfish, Speckled Trout, Sheepshead and Jack...

About Your Trip

Join Richard for a fly fishing adventure across the legendary inshore flats of Galveston, Texas. With miles of sand, grass, and mudflats stretching across the bay system, this fishery offers an incredible opportunity to target Gulf Coast game fish in shallow water using one of the most rewarding methods in angling.

Whether you choose a half-day or full-day trip, you'll spend your time stalking fish on expansive flats where sight fishing opportunities can develop at
any moment. From tailing fish in skinny water to cruising redfish pushing wakes across the shallows, every cast carries the anticipation of a memorable encounter. Fly fishing in this environment is both challenging and exciting, rewarding patience, precision, and observation.

Redfish are Richard's primary target and are perfectly suited for fly anglers. Their willingness to feed in shallow water creates exciting opportunities for accurate presentations and visual strikes. Depending on conditions, anglers may also encounter Black Drum, Sheepshead, Speckled Trout, and the powerful Jack Crevalle, each offering a unique challenge on fly tackle.

You'll fish from a specialized skiff designed to quietly navigate shallow water and access areas that larger boats simply can't reach. The skiff's shallow draft and elevated vantage point allow Richard to spot fish and position anglers for quality shots throughout the day.

Richard provides quality 8, 9, and 10-weight fly rods to cover a variety of conditions and target species, though anglers are welcome to bring their own favorite setups if preferred. Throughout the trip, he is happy to offer instruction, guidance, and local insight to help anglers of all experience levels improve their fly fishing skills.

Light snacks are included, so all you need to bring is weather-appropriate clothing, sun protection, and a readiness to experience some of the finest inshore fly fishing the Texas coast has to offer.

Richard was an awesome guide - he had us on redfish the entire time despite it being overcast and windy. He’s also incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. He thoughtfully answered all of our questions and offered clear casting instruction throughout the day. Will definitely be back to fish with him in the summer.
