Rapid Fire Guide Q & A

What’s the biggest fish you’ve caught?
I have caught plenty of great fish over my lifetime both saltwater and freshwater fishing. My most memorable fish was a 46" Snook. These fish were in a pothole in a bay just off the Tampa Bay. We fished this Snook for a couple of weeks. They were all LOGS! I ran through there one day fun fishing and dumped a bunch of bait. Then made a cast and BAM! A SMOKER on the line! That big girl laid out at 46". Its a personal best that I am sure will not be beaten by myself. The biggest fish ever was on my boat. My old man of Fathers Day. The landed a 300+ pound Goliath Grouper. We had our limit on Gags and the last Gag Grouper pops was reeling in was eaten at the side of the boat by a GIANT GOLIATH GROUPER. After 2 hours he landed that beast. The we had a live release.
If you were cooking for all your friends what would you cook?
That is simple. Fish Fry, What's fresh from a lake or a bay with all the trimmings. Maybe fish, grits and some Hushpuppies. Or maybe just a good Ole Hamburger.
What’s your favorite band?
I have a little Redneck in me, Hank Williams Jr or maybe David Allen Coe. Tough decision.
What’s your favorite movie?
Caddyshack - Classic

Miami Hurricanes Old School
What’s your drink of choice?
In Order Sweet tea am - Water all day - then its 5 o'clock somewhere - definitely after 5pm - Titos, Cranberry with Lime.
What do you want for Christmas this year?
My two front teeth. lol!
How did you get started guiding?
It all started by a passion for fishing. Then I bought a boat and started guiding. Heck I have fished here my whole life like a crack head from childhood to today. There is nothing hard about it. Catch bait and catch fish. At least that's what I thought in my younger days. I started with a nice boat. It had a tower built and a huge livewell but it was just the wrong boat. Just to small. Unfortunately, then I had no money and could barely afford the payment when I started out. A few years later the right boat came along and its a beast! I got a little older and got a little smarter. When you book with Capt. Wayne. We fly first class aboard a Hewes 21 Redfisher with tons of space and a comfortable ride. She rides well in seas and drafts shallow water. Welcome aboard Cadillac Style!
What makes you different from other guides?
There are a few things. Personality and patience, kids are welcome. They will have a great time from catching fish or if they need a break to take a swim. It is hot in the summer sometimes a kid just needs a break. If you are looking for more of a hard core fishing trip. Yes we can do that too. This is not some cookie cutter operation. It your day on the water. We will fish for the mother nature gives us. If want to go out and throw lures all day, I am your guy. Live bait fishing and catch some Snook or Trout. Maybe jump a Tarpon. Or chase bait schools to catch Mackerel or King Mackerel. I am here to have a GREAT TIME! And so are YOU!

About Your Trip

If you're looking to slow things down, soak up the Florida sun, and have an unforgettable day of rod-bending action, hop aboard with Captain Wayne for a laid-back, fish-filled adventure across Tampa Bay!

A true local with over 40 years of fishing and boating experience in these waters, Captain Wayne is all about “Good Times”—easygoing vibes, plenty of laughs, and solid action on the rod. Whether you’re a first-timer, a family with kids, or a
seasoned angler chasing your next big story, Captain Wayne knows just how to tailor the trip so everyone on board is having fun and catching fish.

Your ride for the day is a 21’ Hewes Redfisher flats boat—a slick, shallow-running machine designed to get into tight backwaters and cruise comfortably across open bay. Outfitted with a GPS, fishfinder, wireless trolling motor, live bait well, and ice box, this boat is purpose-built to put you on the fish and keep your catch fresh along the way.

What’s biting? That depends on what Mother Nature serves up—but the variety is always exciting. On calmer days, you’ll be potluck fishing in the bay, chasing everything from Speckled Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Mangrove Snapper, and Grunts, to hard-fighting Jacks and even Sharks. You might even hook into a surprise Tarpon—it’s Tampa Bay, after all!

When the tides line up just right and Snook or Redfish are schooling, Captain Wayne will guide you to the flats and backwaters where sight casting and shallow-water action heat up. There’s nothing quite like watching your bait disappear in a swirl of water and hearing the drag scream. If it’s Tarpon season and the weather plays nice, you might get the chance to target the “Silver King” for a high-thrill showdown you’ll never forget.

Captain Wayne provides everything you need for a great trip: rods, reels, bait, lures, fishing licenses, and even fish cleaning and filleting at the end of the day. Just bring your sunglasses, non-spray sunscreen, water, and some snacks to keep everyone smiling (especially the kids!).

Kids are more than welcome aboard, and child-sized life vests are available. Whether it’s a young angler catching their very first fish or an adult landing their first Snook, these are the moments Captain Wayne lives for—and you’ll see why his trips are more than just fishing—they’re about making memories on the water.

So if you're ready to experience the best of Tampa Bay with a true local who knows every bend, flat, and channel, climb aboard with Captain Wayne. Relax, cast a line, and let the good times roll!
