About Your Guide

Clay Cottle

Independent Guide
Captain Clay is a dedicated shallow water angler whose passion for sight fishing redfish runs deep. For him, this isn’t just about catching fish—it’s about the entire experience of finding them, understanding them, and presenting a fly in a way that earns the eat.

He brings a calm, thoughtful approach to guiding, creating a relaxed, judgment-free environment where anglers can learn and improve at their own pace. Whether you’re brand new to fly fishing or looking to fine-tune your skills, Clay focuses on building confidence through clear instruction and real-time coaching.

With years spent exploring the marshes and bays around Rockport, he has a deep understanding of how redfish move, feed, and react to changing conditions. That knowledge, paired with his patience and attention to detail, allows him to consistently put clients in position for meaningful opportunities.

Clay’s goal is simple: to give you more than just a good day on the water. He wants you to experience what makes this style of fishing so addictive—and walk away with something that brings you back again and again....

About Your Trip

Step into the shallow waters of the Texas Gulf Coast and experience redfish the way they were meant to be chased—up close, visual, and on the fly. Fishing out of Rockport, widely known as the Redfish Capital of Texas, these trips are built around the thrill of sight fishing in clear, skinny water where every move matters.

This is a hands-on, immersive style of fishing. You’ll be scanning the flats for cruising or tailing redfish,
quietly getting into position, and making intentional casts to fish you can actually see. When it all comes together—a clean presentation, a subtle strip, and the fish turns and eats—it’s a moment that sticks with you.

You’ll fish from a shallow-draft poling skiff, designed for stealth and access to remote, less pressured water. It’s a smooth, comfortable ride for you and one guest, with a cooler onboard stocked with ice, water, and additional beverages—feel free to bring anything extra you’d like for the day.

Trips are tailored to all experience levels. If you’re new to fly fishing, you’ll get patient, hands-on instruction throughout the day. If you’ve got experience, this is your chance to refine your approach in a fishery that rewards precision and awareness. All fly fishing gear is provided, including quality rods, flies, tippet, and terminal tackle, though you’re welcome to bring your own setup if you prefer.

Before heading out, you’ll need a valid Texas Saltwater Fishing License, which can be purchased online or at local tackle shops. Aside from that, just bring sun protection, appropriate clothing, and any snacks or drinks you’d like to have on hand.

More than anything, this trip is about the process—the hunt, the learning, and the moment it all clicks. Whether it’s your first redfish on fly or your hundredth, the goal is to give you a true shallow water experience that keeps you coming back.
