Guided by Randy Stallings
Captain Randy has been fishing nearly his whole life. For the last 14 year or so he's been guiding trips in the Florida Keys. He's a passionate fan of the sports aspect fishing provides and loves helping people make the catch of their dreams become reality. Over the years, he's become a proficient in both conventional and fly fishing.
When you get out there with Captain Randy on the flats, you're in for the ultimate hunt. Whether that's chasing cruising Permit, lurking Snook, or going after Lemon Shark on the bottom, you'll be out in it, casting to some of the top saltwater gamefish species in America! Islamorada is one of the fishing capitals of the world, and for good reason! The sportfishing here is absolutely legendary, and there's no better guide to the flats and inshore waters here than Captain Randy. He's a lifetime angler, a real pro, and he knows the water as well as anyone. On a typical day, Captain Randy will meet you at the dock behind the famed Lorelei Restaurant in the heart of Islamorada. (Note: Randy keeps his boat trailered, so he can accommodate other pickup locations as well). After you hop aboard his 18' Hells Bay poling skiff, you'll head out to either the Gulf side, or stay inland to scout out the flats and back bays. On the flats, Captain Randy will either pole you up a flat, or anchor his skiff with his pole to wait for fish to push through. Keep your eyes peeled for the shadow of a cruising fish! Captain Randy can provide all of the gear for your trip—if you need it—and he'll have a cooler with ice, water, and soft drinks ready to rock and roll. Feel free to bring a snack or pick up a sandwich from the Trading Post down the street on your way to the dock. You can also bring any other drinks of your choice as well to be stored in the cooler on board. Don't forget your polarized sunglasses. These are essential out on the flats to help eliminate glare and see the fish as quickly as possible! Read More
Head out with Captain Randy to spot, stalk, and sight-cast to migrating Silver Kings on the gorgeous Florida Key's flats! This trip is not for the faint of heart! Tarpon are smart; they have great eyesight, they are very skittish, and sometimes they're flat out just not hungry! Being able to double-haul and make a good cast to the fish is just the first step—convincing a full-grown tarpon to actually eat your fly is a whole other business! Luckily, Captain Randy has spent most of his adult life throwing flies at these overgrown minnows, and knows all the best secrets, nuances, and stripping techniques to give you the best chances of hooking into the fight of your life! On a normal day, Captain Randy will meet you at the dock behind the famed Lorelei Restaurant in the heart of Islamorada. (Note: Randy keeps his boat trailered, so he can accommodate other pickup locations as well). After you hop aboard his 18' Hells Bay poling skiff (an absolute flats fishing machine) you'll head out to either the gulf side or stay inland to scout out the flats and back bays where these migrating tarpon like to pull off and rest or feed. Stalking the flats, Captain randy will either pole you up a flat, or anchor his skiff with his pole to wait for Tarpon to push through. Keeping your eye's peeled for the flashing glimmer of a rolling Tarpon, or the dark torpedo-like shadow of a cruising fish, you'll be at the bow of the boat, 12 weight in one hand, your fly in the other, poised and ready for action! It is always critical to spring into action quickly and efficiently when a tarpon is within range, and while this might sound straightforward and routine, wait till you feel how fast your heart starts racing when you hear Randy say: "1 o'clock. 40 feet." Don't forget your polarized sunglasses! These are essential out on the flats to help eliminate glare and see the fish as quickly as possible. Captain Randy can provide the rest of the gear for your trip if you need it, and will have a cooler with ice, water, and soft drinks ready to rock and roll. Feel free to bring a snack or pick up a sandwich from the Trading Post down the street on your way to the dock. You can also bring any other drinks of your choice as well to be stored in the cooler on board. Read More
Randy was great! Highly recommend.
The trip was nothing short of amazing, I will never not go tarpon fly fishing when I come down to the keys during spawning season. This was an absolute blast and Capt. Randy put us on the fish! Great trip, highly recommend!
No nonsense day catching snook. Very personable and knowledgeable. Will go again
Captain Randy is a great guide. He is knowledgeable and knows exactly where he’s going and exactly what you need to do in order to get bit.
Had a great half day trip with Randy. Fished the flats for snook and redfish. He took us further than I thought we would go, but that’s where the fish were! Hope to be back when the tarpon are biting, I’ll be fishing w Randy.
A group of fisherman with whom I have fly fished in the Keys for 25 years was short a guide during peak of Tarpon season. Captain Experiences "hooked" us up with Randy, who, as luck would have it, captained out of the Lorelai, which is the launch all our favorite guides use. Randy is a seasoned professional. He located fish in all light conditions, busted his butt to position boat for good angle shots, and did everything other than feed the fish for us. I recommend him without reservation. In fact, I booked him for two more days in early June! …
We had a nice long boat ride to our spot. Once there we threw lures for a while and caught a nice snook. Because it was a bit slow we switched to shrimp and caught a lot of drum, snook, and a few other species. It was a great trip! …
I had the privilege to fish with Captain Randy for 2 days. Captain Randy put me in front of 100+ tarpons. (OMG) I really liked the great fly rod that he let me use. (Incredible) This was hands down the best fishing adventure that I have been on. I will definitely use him again on my next visit to Key Largo. Can’t wait to go back. …
As a professional captain myself I thought the trip with Randy was fantastic. Randy is an extremely knowledgeable and professional captain and the Hell bays boat is a fantastic ride.we caught some nice fish on the water as well as enjoyed captain Randy’s stories as well as his explanations on how we were fishing as well as the history of the area I recommend this trip to both those new to fishing or an Experienced angler.
