About Your Trip

Step into the wild and beautiful backwaters of Charlotte Harbor with Captain Scotty for an unforgettable day of backcountry fishing! Exploring the winding mangrove islands and shallow grass flats of the Peace and Myakka Rivers, this trip offers a peaceful yet action-packed experience for anglers of all skill levels.

Captain Scotty is a seasoned pro when it comes to navigating these waters and knows exactly where to put you on the bite. On your trip,
you'll target a wide range of species, with the stars of the show being Redfish, Snook, Mangrove Snapper, and Spotted Seatrout.

Redfish (also known as Red Drum) are one of the area’s most consistent catches and can be targeted year-round. These fish love to tail through the grass flats in shallow water, making for exciting sight-fishing opportunities. Snook, on the other hand, are more elusive and known for their aggressive strikes and acrobatic fights. These silver torpedoes often dart toward structure the second they’re hooked, so be ready for a challenge—especially during the warmer months from spring through fall when they’re most active.

Mangrove Snapper, a local favorite (and Captain Scotty’s wife’s top pick), may be smaller in size but certainly not in spirit. They hit hard, fight tough, and just so happen to be one of the best-tasting fish you can catch inshore. And let’s not forget Spotted Seatrout, another abundant and fun-to-catch species you’ll find cruising the flats and drop-offs year-round.

You’ll be fishing from Captain Scotty’s 18’ Hewes Bayfisher, an original Bob Hewes design that was completely overhauled in 2018. With a 2018 Yamaha SHO 115hp engine, Sea Star hydraulic jack plate, and Minn Kota trolling motor, this flats boat is built to quietly and efficiently navigate skinny water. It’s also outfitted with live wells, a Lowrance GPS/fishfinder, marine VHF radio, and even a USB plug to keep your phone charged for photos of your catch.

When it comes to gear, Captain Scotty has you covered with high-quality setups including Penn Spinfisher VI and Senator reels, paired with Redbone and Star rods. Rigged with Owner hooks and Berkley line and leader, every detail is dialed in to help you make the most of your time on the water.

Just bring your hat, sunglasses, snacks, drinks, and a good attitude—and get ready for a relaxing yet rewarding day exploring some of Florida’s most scenic and productive fishing grounds. Captain Scotty is here to show you the ropes and share his love of the backcountry, one cast at a time.
