Fishing the Barrier Islands and Nearshore reefs

Target Species: Speckled Trout, Redfish, Flounder, Sheepshead, White Trout, Ground Mullet, Sharks, and Spanish Mackerel

Live Bait, dead bait, and Artificials

The barrier island and nearshore reef fishing trip is a great way to target popular gamefish and take in the natural beauty of those environments at the same time. These areas are typically most productive from early April to mid-November. On these trips, both live bait and
artificial lures may be used depending on how fast the action is. Most of our nearshore reefs are in 8-15 feet of water and can host many different species. Fishing at the barrier islands is usually a shallow-water affair targeting speckled trout, redfish, white trout, flounder, and sharks on the sea grass flats and in the saltwater marshes.

Fuel, Fishing licenses, Rods/Reels, Tackle, Bait, Ice, Separate drink cooler with ice bottled water, and Fish cleaning are included.

Independent Guide
Raised in Pass Christian, MS, I have been a lifelong outdoorsman. My love for fishing began on the bank of a pond, end of a pier, and rocks of a jetty. As soon as a boat came into the picture, fish inhabiting the Wolf River and Portage Bayou immediately became imperiled – especially once I was able to tow the boat to the launch myself! My highly supportive parents strongly encouraged I go to college, so off I went. I studied at Mississippi State University in the Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture program. Where else would a young person with a burning passion for the outdoors go? I completed my bachelors of science in 2020 and was accepted in the University of Southern Mississippi’s coastal science master’s program in the fall of the same year. This allowed me to be closer to the waters I loved and hone my skills as a fisherman and naturalist. I completed my masters’s thesis studying marsh grass and how pier dimensions and construction can affect their success. After receiving my master’s degree in 2022, I accepted a Shrimp and Crab scientist position at the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources. This job afforded me the ability to represent the rich natural resources and diverse community of fishermen and women of Mississippi. I was provided the opportunity to be able to commit to full-time guiding in Spring of 2025. I am excited to share the coastal experiences I love with those seeking a taste of what the Mississippi gulf coast has to offer!
