No trip to Key West is complete without a sandbar adventure, and Captain Zak’s private sandbar tours are the perfect way to escape the crowds and soak up the natural beauty of the Florida Keys—local style. This half-day charter takes you into the backcountry, a remote stretch of islands and shallow flats only accessible by boat, where white sandbars and crystal-clear water await.

Hop aboard a comfortable twin-engine center console as you cruise through Lakes Passage toward Boca Grande Key. Along the way, you’ll travel through parts of the Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge, spotting marine life and unspoiled scenery that most visitors never get to see. It’s about a 45-minute ride out, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the view, catch the breeze, and unwind.

Once you reach the sandbars, the real fun begins. You’ll spend around 2.5 hours exploring multiple sandbars—floating, swimming, lounging, shell-hunting, and maybe even spotting stingrays or dolphins. Whether you’re strolling through ankle-deep water looking for sea stars and sand dollars or posted up with a drink in hand, it’s laid-back paradise at its finest.

Morning trips tend to be quieter—ideal for families or guests looking to relax and explore nature. Afternoon tours, especially on weekends or holidays, often turn up the volume with music, laughter, and a fun, social atmosphere. You can also customize your experience—combine your sandbar trip with snorkeling, dolphin watching, or even a sunset cruise. Just let Captain Zak know your preferences when booking.

The boat is stocked with coolers, ice, bottled water, pool noodles, a Bluetooth stereo, and a beach umbrella for extra shade. Paddleboards and a lily pad mat are available upon request (paddleboards may come at an additional charge). You’re welcome to bring your own snacks, drinks, and even your pets—the trip is family and dog-friendly, with a maximum of six passengers.

Whether you’re after quiet solitude, a laid-back party vibe, or a little of both, Captain Zak’s sandbar tours offer the perfect way to experience Key West beyond the tourist trail—just you, the open water, and some of the most beautiful spots in the Keys.

He’s also a bit of a history buff and loves swapping stories about Key West’s colorful past. When he’s not out on the boat, you’ll probably find him diving, sailing, growing bananas, or kicking back with some good rum and a cigar.

Everything is included, but we also recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, and anything else you might want on the trip.
We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).
Cancel for free up to 14 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 14 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.
In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.

Once you've paid your deposit at checkout, we'll send you a QR Code boarding pass. Just show your guide your boarding pass on the day of the trip, they'll scan it, the remaining balance will transfer automatically, and you'll be all set to get out there. Just make sure you bring a cash tip for the guide!
In the event of inclement weather, our guides will check the conditions and make the final call on whether its safe to go on the trip. If they decide the trip needs to be postponed, we'll work closely with you to reschedule or provide a credit for the full deposit, which can be applied to any of our trips in the US and beyond.
Each trip's price is determined by the guide and reflects all associated costs. A significant factor in pricing is often the type of boat and the corresponding fuel expenses. Additional costs may include leases, marina or slip fees, and the expenses involved in providing and maintaining the necessary gear for your trip.
