About Your Trip

Each spring, giant Black Drum flood the shallows of Delaware Bay near Cape May, creating one of the most unique big-fish bites on the East Coast. This private 8-hour trip with Captain Joseph puts you right on the oyster beds and mussel structure where these fish stack up to spawn.

You and up to 3 guests will have the boat to yourselves for a full day targeting drum that commonly range 20–60 pounds, with true
giants pushing well beyond that. These fish are famous for their powerful runs and stubborn fights — the kind that test your arms and your gear and leave you smiling for days.

How You’ll Fish

We anchor over productive bottom and fish heavy conventional tackle with circle hooks, letting fresh clam or crab sit on the bottom where drum feed. When that slow thump turns into a steady pull, it’s game on. Big drum aren’t rushed — you’ll lean into them, keep steady pressure, and work the fish up with the captain coaching you the whole way.

Your Boat

You’ll fish aboard a 2008 Sea Hunt center console powered by a 150HP Suzuki, perfectly suited for working the calm, shallow waters of the bay where drum gather in less than 10 feet of water.

What Makes This Trip Special

- Peak spring spawning run when numbers and size are at their best
- Calm bay waters ideal for a full, comfortable day of fishing
- A true bucket-list fishery with serious bragging rights

What to Bring

Snacks, drinks, sunscreen, and a cooler if you plan to keep any legal fish. Smaller “puppy drum” are better for the table, while the big ones are often released after photos.

If you’ve ever wanted to battle one of the heaviest, hardest-pulling fish in shallow water, this Cape May Black Drum trip is the time and place to do it.
