About Your Trip

Fish the rich Pacific waters of Costa Rica with Rudi’s team out of Los Sueños Marina, one of Central America’s premier sportfishing destinations. Whether you choose a half-day or full-day charter, you’ll have the flexibility to fish inshore structure or run offshore depending on the bite, season, and your goals for the day.

Half-day trips can be tailored for inshore action targeting species closer to the reefs and shoreline, or you can head offshore if conditions allow. Full-day trips give you the range and time to push farther into bluewater for pelagic species and changing patterns throughout the day.

You’ll be fishing aboard a recently updated 30’ sportfishing boat, comfortably accommodating up to 6 anglers, though 4 guests provides the ideal fishing setup. The boat is fully rigged for both inshore and offshore action and equipped with the latest Furuno electronics for precision navigation and fish tracking. Tuna tubes, electric teaser reels, and a dredge teaser system give you every advantage when raising billfish or keeping live bait in prime condition.

Tackle is top-tier, featuring Shimano and Daiwa reels paired with custom rods to handle everything from light tackle work to heavy offshore battles. The boat also includes a private toilet, microwave, Starlink connectivity, and comfortable amenities to keep you dialed in all day.

Full-day trips include a packed lunch along with beer and soda. For half-day trips, bring any additional snacks or drinks you’d like. All anglers are responsible for purchasing their own Costa Rica fishing license prior to departure.

Whether you’re chasing roosterfish along the rocks or looking to raise sailfish and marlin offshore, Rudi’s team is equipped and ready to deliver a professional, well-run fishing experience out of Los Sueños.

With over 50 years of experience on the water, my life has been defined by a deep passion for fishing, boat design, and the pursuit of some of the world’s most sought-after game species. From an early age, I was drawn to the ocean—learning not just how to fish, but how to understand the rhythms, conditions, and subtle details that separate a good day from an exceptional one.

My journey has taken me across some of the most iconic sportfishing destinations in the world. Time spent at Tropic Star Lodge in Panama laid the foundation for targeting billfish at the highest level, while my work with Gone Fishing Safaris exposed me to diverse fisheries and techniques. At the legendary St. Lazarus Banks in Mozambique, I experienced some of the most intense offshore action on the planet, further refining my approach to big game fishing. Guatemala’s prolific sailfish grounds added another dimension to my experience, offering unparalleled opportunities to perfect light tackle techniques and high-volume releases.

Today, I operate out of Marina Pez Vela in Quepos, Costa Rica—widely regarded as one of the premier sportfishing hubs in the world. This fishery offers an incredible variety of species, from sailfish and marlin offshore to roosterfish, snapper, and jacks inshore. Working in this environment allows me to apply decades of accumulated knowledge on a daily basis, adapting to conditions and consistently delivering successful fishing experiences.

Beyond fishing, my expertise extends into the hands-on design and construction of specialized sportfishing boats. I have spent years refining layouts, hull performance, and functional details to create vessels that are not only efficient and seaworthy, but purpose-built for serious anglers. Every design decision is driven by real-world experience—what works, what doesn’t, and what gives anglers the best possible advantage on the water.

My approach to fishing is rooted in understanding—reading the water, anticipating fish behavior, and using the right techniques at the right time. Whether targeting billfish offshore or working structure inshore, I bring a practical, experience-based mindset that consistently produces results.

Fishing is more than a profession for me—it’s a lifelong pursuit. After five decades, I remain as passionate as ever about being on the water, continuing to learn, refine, and share that knowledge with others who seek the same thrill of the catch.

Everything is included, but we also recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, and anything else you might want on the trip.

You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.

This trip is managed by an outfitter. Rudi will be your point of contact and you will go out with one of their guides.

We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).

Cancel for free up to 14 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 14 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.

In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.

Once you've paid your deposit at checkout, we'll send you a QR Code boarding pass. Just show your guide your boarding pass on the day of the trip, they'll scan it, the remaining balance will transfer automatically, and you'll be all set to get out there. Just make sure you bring a cash tip for the guide!

In the event of inclement weather, our guides will check the conditions and make the final call on whether its safe to go on the trip. If they decide the trip needs to be postponed, we'll work closely with you to reschedule or provide a credit for the full deposit, which can be applied to any of our trips in the US and beyond.

Each trip's price is determined by the guide and reflects all associated costs. A significant factor in pricing is often the type of boat and the corresponding fuel expenses. Additional costs may include leases, marina or slip fees, and the expenses involved in providing and maintaining the necessary gear for your trip.
