About Your Trip

If you are on the search for one of the best guided alligator gar fishing trips ever, this is your stop. Texas is the best place in the world to catch trophy alligator gar, over six feet long and 100 pounds, with a rod and reel.

During your eight hour trip, Dawson will help you navigate the tricky waters of Trinity River, guiding you to fare the fluctuations in water levels, shallow rock bars, and
even bait stealing turtles to catch a trophy alligator gar.

Some other species you may encounter on your trip include longnose gar, catfish, and freshwater drum. All fish however, including the alligator gar, will be caught and released to support the conservation of the species. However, Dawson can recommend an excellent taxidermist if you would like a replica.

Keep in mind, these fish and these river bottoms get rough and muddy, prepare to get dirty, but have a great time doing it. All gear like Eagle Claw hooks, Cortland Masterbraid line, Penn fishing reels, and more will be provided. The only things you'll need to bring are a fishing license, and any snacks and drinks you need to fuel your epic day.

Captain Dawson is a well seasoned and experienced angler, and is THE guy to call for a trophy alligator gar trip. He is honest, and a well trusted expert in what he does, and that is put you on the trophies.

He has been contacted by, worked with, and been featured by, Field & Stream Hook Shots, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and Fishing Headquarters Magazine, just to name a few.

Captain Dawson is known as one of the hardest working
and dedicated anglers in Texas. Forever searching for new honey holes, continuing to advance his knowledge of fresh water, and always fine tuning his fish sense, there are just truly not many guides like him.

Everything Else to Know

Anglers should wear loose-fitting, breathable clothing that can get slimed and dirty, most likely a combination of both. Temperatures will range from 60's at first light to low 100's in mid afternoon. It is not a bad idea to pack a sweatshirt that can be left in the vehicle if not needed( spring and fall only) Anglers should always pack a lite rain suit whether or not rain is expected. River access points consist of nothing besides an area to park and a dilapidated boat ramp. There are no restrooms etc. near the river or launch site. Expect to get dirty on your trip both from holding fish and because it is impossible to avoid it in the river bottoms.
You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.
We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).
The deposit for this trip is non-refundable except for weather-related cancellations. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.
In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.

Dawson runs an absolutely awesome 5 star operation. Putting us on big alligator gar at every turn. We will be repeat clients as soon as we can. What a day! What a trip! You haven’t caught big gar until you’ve fished with Dawson
