About Your Trip

Join Captain Jason “Butterfly” Coffin and first mate Jorge for an unforgettable fishing adventure off Costa Rica’s Pacific coast with Mr. Trigger Big Game Fishing!

Capt. Coffin knows the waters around Flamingo and Tamarindo exceptionally well. During 11 years of guiding in the region, he earned an impressive reputation as a big game specialist, including three offshore world records - two Sailfish and one Marlin - as well as an exceptional Roosterfish catch.

After retiring
from guiding in 2017, he continued to expand his experience around the world, fishing in Hawaii, Fiji, and the Bahamas and learning from some of the sport’s most respected captains. Among his most meaningful partnerships was his friendship and mentorship with the late Capt. Bart Miller of Black Bart Lures, with whom he even won a marlin tournament.

Now back in Costa Rica, Capt. Coffin brings decades of experience, international knowledge, and a genuine passion for fishing to Mr. Trigger Big Game Fishing. Depending on the season and conditions, you can target Marlin, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Roosterfish, Amberjack, and other exciting Pacific species.

You'll fish fully equipped for offshore and inshore fishing with quality rods, reels, tackle, navigation and safety equipment. The boat accommodates up to 4 anglers and is operated by an experienced crew who know these fishing grounds inside out.

Fishing gear, tackle, and bait are provided. We recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, comfortable clothing, non-slip shoes, a camera, and any snacks or drinks you'd like for the trip. A light change of clothes is also a good idea!

Come aboard and let Capt. Coffin and Jorge put you on the fish!

We can’t wait to take you fishing!

Independent Guide
Captain Jason “Butterfly”, is no stranger to the waters of Flamingo and Carrillo, Costa Rica. With three offshore world records to his name—including two sailfish and one marlin—as well as one of the largest roosterfish ever caught inshore, Capt Jason's reputation as a Big Game hunter speaks for itself.

After spending 11 years guiding in the region before his retirement in 2017, Capt. Jason continued to expand his expertise across the globe. He fished the Pacific waters of Hawaii alongside
Capt. Russel Tanaka of Magic Sportfishing, explored the blue currents of Fiji with Capt. Mike Hennessey, and navigated the Bahamian islands aboard multiple vessels—learning, refining, and perfecting his craft with every adventure.

Among his most meaningful achievements was his friendship and mentorship with the late Capt. Bart Miller of Black Bart Lures & Hook Harmeling of The Billfish Report. Together Bart & Jason fished the Bahamas and West Palm, and even took home a victory at Capt. Miller’s final marlin tournament. From casual bass trips to long conversations over burgers and beers, Capt. Jason absorbed invaluable lessons that continue to shape his approach to the sport today. Hook, owner of the largest billfish report and tracking database, found Jason on the internet doing his thing catching Black Marlin on the regular. After coming down to Costa Rica numerous times they became close friends despite the fact that The Billfish Report allows Hook to fish with anyone anywhere he chooses

Now back on the waters of Costa Rica, Capt.Jason brings that same passion, knowledge, and dedication to Sportfishing. Alongside first mate Jorge, he carries forward a legacy of excellence and excitement that clients will feel in every cast and every catch.
