About Your Trip

Experience the best of western Virginia’s world-class fishing with Zach and his team, centrally located near historic Lexington, Virginia. From scenic mountain streams to urban trout fisheries and private smallmouth bass waters, these wading-only fly fishing adventures are tailored to provide an unforgettable experience in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. With access to nearly 30 rivers, streams, and lakes, Zach’s team will customize each trip to fit your goals, focusing on convenience, fishing quality, and accessibility.

Virginia’s diverse fisheries offer year-round angling opportunities. For trout enthusiasts, the options are endless—explore the world-famous brook trout streams of Shenandoah National Park, located just an hour outside of Washington D.C., or enjoy miles of stocked trout rivers for wading adventures that balance accessibility and great fishing. Urban trout fishing in Roanoke and Waynesboro offers a unique, easy-to-access option for anglers, while private access to a pristine smallmouth bass river near Lexington ensures a secluded, trophy-filled experience. Trout fishing is best from October through June, while smallmouth bass fishing peaks from April through late fall, making this region a dream destination for anglers at any time of year.

These trips are all-inclusive, designed to provide a stress-free and immersive experience. Zach and his team supply everything you need, including waders, boots, rods, reels, and all terminal tackle. Your guide will also be prepared with sunscreen, bug spray, first aid supplies, and hand warmers to keep you comfortable in any weather. Along the way, you’ll enjoy breakfast, coffee or hot tea, a variety of drinks such as sodas, Gatorade, and water, and plenty of snacks to keep you energized. Full-day trips include a lunch to fuel you through a productive day on the water.

All you need to bring is a Virginia fishing license (your guide will advise on the correct one) and seasonally appropriate clothing. If you prefer to use your own gear, feel free to bring it along—most trips are ideal for a 9’ 5 or 6 weight rod, while brook trout adventures in Shenandoah’s streams may call for a 7-8’ 2 or 3 weight rod.

Whether you’re an experienced fly angler or just getting started, Zach and his team are passionate about creating the perfect fishing experience for you. Their deep knowledge of western Virginia’s fisheries and commitment to personalized service make every trip unique, productive, and memorable. Explore crystal-clear mountain streams, wade into miles of stocked trout rivers, or cast for aggressive smallmouth bass in private, unpressured waters—Zach and his team will ensure your trip is as exciting as it is rewarding.

Centrally located near Lexington, Virginia, and within easy reach of Shenandoah National Park, Roanoke, and Waynesboro, these trips combine world-class fishing with the natural beauty and history of the region. Book your fly fishing adventure today with Zach and his team to discover why western Virginia is one of the country’s premier fishing destinations!

Everything Else to Know

Virginia requires all anglers age 16 and up to have a State Freshwater Fishing License. To fish for trout between October 1 and June 15, a Trout License is required. If your trip is conducted within a National Forest, a National Forest Permit is also required. All licenses can be purchased online at www.gooutdoorsvirginia.com.

All you need to bring are the fishing licenses listed above and seasonally appropriate clothing (your guide will help determine the best clothing to wear before your trip). Polarized sunglasses, a rain jacket, and a change of clothes are recommended any time of year.
You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.
We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).
Cancel for free up to 14 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 14 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.
In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.
