About Your Trip

Our longer ocean going trips focus on the distant towers, natural live bottom, wrecks and reefs, typically in the 40-80 mile range off the beach. Looking to bring home dinner? A full day trip like this gets us into the most diverse range of species and some quality seafood. This trip is for ages 15+ and a max of 4 persons, and is a serious full day adventure.

Running in the ocean is where the
Freeman 29 sets herself apart from the competition. The famous Freeman hull gives a "magic carpet ride" feeling as she glides over waves and proves her worth in soft landings. Caution: riding on a Freeman may seriously spoil you against any other boat!

All that said, sometimes the ocean can be too darn rough, and when it's not fun and fishable we'll give you the choice of remaining in the backcountry inshore waters and adjust the trip accordingly. We're pretty spoiled by good rides so we want to make sure it's like that for you, so this trip is "ocean weather dependent". We're looking for less windy days with calmer seas, and when the schedule allows we'll often offer you a date change if possible/available.

Our destinations can vary greatly depending on conditions and how fast we're able to run on a particular day. We're expecting to at least get into the 40 mile range and sometimes twice that. We're hoping for bluewater (positions change through the year) and the additional species it brings (tuna, mahi, sailfish, wahoo). Throughout this trip's range we can hope to see any of the following: almaco jack, amberjack, barracuda, cobia, grouper, king mackerel, snapper (red & vermillion), triggerfish, and others.

Our ocean-fishing tactics and techniques can vary greatly through the seasons, so feel free to chat with us ahead of time to understand what's biting and how we might target them. We tend to mix it up on a full day trip, combining some trolling with bottom fishing and/or jigging. Sometimes there is an opportunity to sight cast to fish on the surface. We'll focus on the most productive approach and pursue opportunities as they arise.

This trip is offered here with 8hr, 9hr, or 10hr options*, with the longer choice giving us a chance to travel further and/or an increase in fishing time. Ask us ahead for details on what's biting and what we might hope to see. It's important to us that we understand your goals and can work to meet or exceed them!

*Yes, we also offer shorter ocean trips, listed separately as 5 and 6 hour "Coastal Ocean/Reef Trips".

Owner/Capt Blair grew up exploring the waters of both the Delmarva Peninsula and the Hilton Head Island area since the late 70s. Taking friends and family on boating and fishing adventures turned into a lifelong passion, and in 1996 he turned it into a profession as he began guiding kayak tours on HHI. A few thousand kayakers and a few years later and he became a licensed boat captain, and by 2006 was running his own charter company. Blair now operates the flagship vessel, a Freeman 29 custom center console catamaran. She's a sleek vessel, a virtual "Ferrari of Fishing Boats" and he's excited to share a trip with you. Blair is not only a fishing guide but an engaging host with a wide knowledge of the local waterways and nature. After getting started with family and friends many decades ago, he still follows the same recipe:

"I treat every trip as if it were an outing with my own family." — Capt. Blair
