About Your Trip

Get ready for an exciting and eye-opening offshore adventure with Captain Ray on his dedicated shark trips! Departing from Westport and venturing up to 20 miles offshore, these trips focus on attracting and battling some of the ocean’s most powerful predators—on light tackle no less.

Captain Ray keeps it simple and effective: once on location, he’ll set out a slick line of chum to draw sharks into the area. Once they’re in the zone, you'll
use both fresh bait and artificial lures to entice the strike. The real thrill starts when a shark takes the bait—these fish hit hard, pull even harder, and offer long, drag-screaming runs that will put your skills (and adrenaline) to the test.

While the exact species can vary, these trips regularly produce Blue Sharks and occasionally other visitors depending on water temps and conditions. What makes this trip unique is the use of lighter gear than typical heavy shark setups, allowing for a more hands-on and sporting fight—an incredible way to experience just how strong and determined these animals can be.

All sharks are catch-and-release only, with zero retention. The focus here is on the experience, the fight, and the chance to see these incredible creatures up close in their natural environment. It’s a great trip for all experience levels and ages, offering a mix of excitement and education that makes it especially memorable.

As always, Captain Ray provides all the rods, reels, bait, lures, and necessary licenses. Just bring your sense of adventure and get ready to see why shark fishing is one of the most thrilling things you can do on the water.
