About Your Trip

If you're looking for a true sight-fishing experience in one of the Northeast’s most scenic and productive fisheries, Captain Andrew’s flats fishing trips from May through June are as good as it gets. Quiet, technical, and wildly rewarding, these trips put you on the hunt for striped bass in skinny water—and offer a unique perspective on the East End’s rich spring fishery.

Climb aboard Captain Andrew’s Keys-style flats boat, specially designed for poling quietly across
the ultra-clear shallows of Peconic Bay and Gardiner’s Bay. This setup allows for stealthy approaches and perfect positioning, giving you the chance to see the fish before you cast—a rare and exhilarating opportunity in the Northeast.

You'll target striped bass cruising in just 1 to 3 feet of water, often tailing or pushing wakes across the flats. Whether you're throwing a fly or a light spinning rig, the visual nature of this fishery turns every cast into a moment of pure anticipation. Watch the fish track, follow, and (with any luck) eat—all in full view.

These trips are ideal for anglers who appreciate the nuance and challenge of shallow-water fishing. Fly anglers will love the sight-casting opportunities and technical presentations, while light tackle enthusiasts will find plenty of action with soft plastics and small topwaters. Captain Andrew will tailor the experience to your skill level and preferred gear—no pressure, just fun.

Captain Andrew brings deep knowledge and a calm, confident presence to every trip. He knows these flats inside and out, and his low-pressure, high-success approach makes these trips great for both seasoned anglers and those new to sight-fishing. All gear, tackle, and licenses are provided—you just need to bring your polarized shades and a good attitude.

If you’re looking to stalk stripers in shallow water with crystal-clear visuals and hands-on action, this flats trip is the one to book. It’s East End fishing at its most intimate—and most exciting.

About Your Guide

Andrew D.

Independent Guide
Whether you’re new to the sport or a seasoned angler, a day on the water with Captain Andrew is all about discovering the dynamic fishery of Long Island’s East End. Specializing in fly fishing and light tackle spin fishing, Andrew brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for the saltwater scenes that unfold from May through November across Peconic Bay, Plum Island, The Gulls, The Race, Plum Gut, Fisher’s Island, and the legendary waters off Montauk.

Captain Andrew’s
story starts in the Adirondack Mountains, where summers spent on the Ausable River sparked a lifelong love for fly fishing. That passion carried him south to the Florida Keys in the late ‘90s, where he launched his guiding career on the saltwater flats. His journey has taken him across the globe—from the turquoise shallows of the Seychelles to the serene rivers of upstate New York—before settling in the East End over a decade ago to fully immerse himself in one of the Northeast’s most celebrated fisheries.

Since becoming a Coast Guard licensed captain in 1999, Andrew has combined technical expertise with an infectious enthusiasm for teaching and exploring. The ever-changing seasonal patterns and migrating baitfish in these waters create a constantly shifting challenge, and Andrew’s deep local knowledge allows him to adapt his approach, making each trip feel like a fresh adventure.

With Captain Andrew at the helm, you’ll not only cast to Striped Bass and Bluefish in pristine surroundings—you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the rhythms and richness of this vibrant marine environment. Come ready to learn, explore, and experience the East End like a local.
