Step aboard Captain Jim’s 35’ Duffy Downeast and set your sights on the deep blue waters offshore, where serious anglers come to test their skills against the Atlantic’s most thrilling big game species. Whether you’re trolling for Tuna and Mahi-Mahi, battling powerful Sharks, or heading out on an overnight Canyon run, this trip is built for adventure and action.

From June through September, the offshore bite comes alive with Tuna, Mahi, and Sharks making their move through the waters off the coast. Depending on the trip you choose, you’ll head up to 50 miles offshore, chasing down these high-powered predators with trolling techniques that keep the lines tight and the adrenaline pumping. Captain Jim uses only the best gear—Shimano and Penn International rods and reels matched with high-end lures and fresh bait—giving you every advantage when it’s game time.

If you’re looking for the ultimate offshore experience, Captain Jim also offers Canyon trips running from July through November. These 24-hour excursions depart in the evening and return the following night, allowing you to fish during the most productive hours—overnight and early morning. You’ll troll during daylight and switch to chunking or bait fishing under the stars, increasing your chances of hooking into multiple pelagic species in one trip. It’s an unforgettable way to experience the offshore fishery and test your skills in deep water.

The 35’ Duffy is purpose-built for these long-range runs. Powered by a 480hp Cummins Diesel engine, she cruises at 18–19 knots and has the fuel range and reliability needed for full-day and overnight trips. Inside, you’ll find all the amenities for a comfortable ride: air conditioning, heat, a full galley with microwave, enclosed head, couches, and bunks for when it’s time to rest and recharge. The oversized cockpit offers plenty of space for up to six anglers to fish without crowding, and the vessel is fully outfitted with advanced safety and navigation equipment, including an EPIRB and life raft.

All tackle, bait, and gear are provided, so all you need to bring is your own food, drinks, and personal items. For overnight trips, be sure to pack for changing weather and longer stretches on the water.

As with all trips, it’s customary to tip the mate 15–20% for their hard work and assistance throughout your day.

Growing up in Babylon, he spent countless days on the water with his father around Fire Island Inlet and Montauk, later working on sportfishing boats to help pay for college. After years as a high school math teacher, he followed his true passion and turned guiding into a full-time career.

Jim loves sharing the stories, techniques, and local knowledge he’s built over decades, offering affordable, versatile inshore and offshore trips tailored to your goals. Whether fishing back bays from a 23’ Grady or running offshore aboard a 35’ Duffy, he focuses on safety, comfort, and creating a memorable, personalized experience.

All gear is included, but we also recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, and anything else you might want on the trip.

You're all set! You don't need to buy a license for this trip.

We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).

Cancel for free up to 14 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 14 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.

In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.

If they decide the trip needs to be postponed, we'll work closely with you to reschedule or provide a credit for the full deposit, which can be applied to any of our trips in the US and beyond.

Each trip's price is determined by the guide and reflects all associated costs. A significant factor in pricing is often the type of boat and the corresponding fuel expenses. Additional costs may include leases, marina or slip fees, and the expenses involved in providing and maintaining the necessary gear for your trip.
