About Your Trip

Nestled on the banks of the mighty Rio Colorado—Costa Rica’s largest river by volume and just a mile from the sea—this unforgettable fishing adventure puts you in the heart of the Barra del Colorado Wildlife Refuge. Spanning over 400,000 acres, this is the second-largest rainforest preserve in Central America and a true haven for wildlife and world-class fishing.

You’ll have quick access to the Caribbean's most productive tarpon waters and the chance to chase silver
kings inshore, target snook, Spanish mackerel, Jack Crevalle, barracuda, and tripletail, or run offshore for wahoo, tuna, and dorado. For freshwater enthusiasts, nearby rainforest streams and lagoons offer action-packed battles with guapote, mojarra, and machaca.

A Typical Fishing Day:

The lodge follows a laid-back but efficient daily schedule built around maximizing time on the water:

5:00 AM – Wake-up call and breakfast

5:30 AM – Head out with your guide

11:00 AM – Return for lunch and a siesta

1:30 PM – Afternoon fishing session

5:00 PM – Return to the dock

5:30 PM – Happy hour

6:30 PM – Buffet-style dinner

Prefer to fish all day? Just let your guide and the staff know—they’ll pack a lunch to keep you going.

Boats & Gear:

Fish from 23’ deep V-hull fiberglass boats powered by 150 HP Yamaha motors—perfect for navigating rough water and reaching offshore hot spots. Each boat is equipped with fish finders, marine radios, and full safety gear.

For stream and lagoon fishing, hop aboard a 16’ aluminum Tracker skiff with a Bimini top—ideal for working jungle channels in pursuit of aggressive freshwater species.

All spinning and casting gear is included, with stocked tackle boxes provided. A limited supply of fly gear is available (first-come, first-served; breakage fees apply). Your English-speaking guides are highly experienced and dialed in to the local bite.

The Lodge:

Founded in 1992, the lodge accommodates up to 24 guests in air-conditioned duplex-style rooms, each with 2–3 queen beds, ensuite tiled bathrooms with hot water, walk-in closets, satellite TV, and limited Wi-Fi.

Three buffet-style meals are served daily, and the lodge is well-known for its delicious food. The open bar includes Costa Rican beer, non-alcoholic beer, house wine, local rum, vodka, and whiskey. Call liquors are available for $5 per drink, and specialty beer requests can be arranged when booking.

Daily laundry service is included, and the lush surroundings are alive with tropical birds, monkeys, and more.

What’s Included:

- Airport reception
- Three ground transfers in San José
- Round-trip charter flight to the lodge
- Air-conditioned lodging
- Three buffet-style meals daily
- Open bar (beer, house wine, liwuor)
- Wi-Fi access
- Daily laundry service
- Guided fishing (one full day per night stayed)
- Use of rods and reels

Note: Package rates reflect the same number of nights as fishing days. A Single Angler package includes one angler per room and boat. A Two Angler package includes two anglers sharing a room and boat.

What’s Not Included:

- International airfare
- Hotels/meals in San José
- Fishing license ($25, paid at the lodge)
- Gratuities for guides and staff
- Rapalas and flies (available at the tackle shop)
- Top-shelf liquor

Best Time to Fish:

The lodge is open year-round, but prime tarpon fishing runs from March–May and September–October. Offshore species like tuna, wahoo, and dorado are also red-hot during these months. Inshore targets like snook, cubera snapper, and Spanish mackerel are available most of the year, and freshwater fishing stays consistently productive.

If you're looking to pair serious fishing with an immersive jungle adventure, this lodge delivers an experience like no other—wild, remote, and absolutely unforgettable.
