About Your Trip

Get ready for a fun-filled day of bottom fishing with Captain Dexter as you explore the productive inshore waters off the coast of New Jersey! This 6-hour trip is tailor-made for anglers of all skill levels looking to reel in tasty bottom dwellers like Sea Bass, Porgy, Fluke, and Tog — all from the comfort of a well-equipped, spacious vessel that accommodates up to six anglers.

Depending on the time of year and your target
species, Captain Dexter will take you to the best local reefs, wrecks, and structure-rich areas where the bite is hottest. Spring and fall are prime times for Blackfish (Tog), known for their hard hits and dogged fights — with April and mid-November through December marking open season. Come late spring (May 17–June 19), Sea Bass action heats up fast, giving anglers plenty of chances to fill the cooler. If you're booking in summer, you're in luck: Fluke season runs from May 2 to September 27, and these flatfish are a favorite for both their fight and their flavor. You’ll also have opportunities to catch Porgy, a reliable and scrappy species that's great fun on light tackle.

This is a classic bottom-fishing trip, using baited rigs and tried-and-true techniques to drop lines down where the fish are holding. Captain Dexter provides all the bait, tackle, and gear you’ll need — so all you need to bring is a good attitude, your food and drinks for the day (no glass containers, please!), and a valid New Jersey Saltwater Registry license (it's free and easy to get).

Whether you're chasing dinner or just out to enjoy a relaxing day with friends or family, Captain Dexter will make sure you’re fishing smart and having fun. He encourages guests to leave a note when booking with any specifics on which species they'd like to focus on — he's happy to tailor your adventure to fit your goals and the season’s best bite.

With great fishing, top-quality equipment, and a knowledgeable, easygoing captain at the helm, this inshore bottom fishing trip delivers a perfect day on the water from May through December. Let Captain Dexter show you what the Jersey coast has to offer!
