On this trip, you'll choose between an 8-hour or 12-hour deep sea excursion between 40 and 80 miles off the shore of Galveston. On the 8-hour trip, we'll head about 40 miles offshore targeting red snapper, kingfish, mangrove snappers, triggerfish, Spanish mackerel, and mahi mahi. On the 12-hour trip, we will be between 70 to 80 miles offshore (blue water) red snapper, kingfish, wahoo, tuna, mahi mahi grouper, amberjack, and always a possibility of a sailfish. This trip is 4-6 hours long for 1-4 people. Typically there is a fifteen minute boat ride to the spot. We will use live shrimp or other bait to target good eating fish. Ex. Redfish, Speckled Trout, Sheepshead and many other fish, also Bycatch such as Tarpon, Jack Crevalle, Bull Red Drum. All the Rods, Reels, Gas, Bait, and Safety Gear are provided. Embark on a fly fishing adventure with Captain Justin through Galveston’s huge expanse of sand, grass, and mudflats that provide plenty of opportunities to sight fish for tailing Reds! Captain Justin specifically targets Redfish but that doesn't mean you won't throw a fly at a cruising Black Drum or Sheepshead you see along the way. Captain Justin offers half-day and full-day trips depending on how much time you want to spend out on the water. His skiff is a fantastic vessel for exploring the shallow waters, and can comfortably host you and one other person. You must have a Texas Parks and Wildlife Fishing License with a Saltwater Stamp. Captain Justin encourages you to bring your own gear if you have it, but will also provide an 8, 9, and 10 weight rod for you as well. Spend the first part of your day wearing out the Redfish, Trout, Flounder, and Black Drum out in the Galveston Bay Complex, and finish your adventure out on the Jetties where you never know what you're going to catch! Your welcome to determine how you'd like to allocate your time as well, if the bay is hot your welcome to stay inshore, and if your looking to spend all your time out the Jetties, Captain Brantley can make it happen. He will suggest which is best but ultimately, he is there to please. We will start in the bay and as it gets later in the morning head to the jetties. The jetties are full of unknowns. If you have young children, we highly suggest these trips due to fast action and a lot of it! Captain Brantley can rig up for sharks too if you'd like! If you're looking to run a full-day trip, Captain Brantley suggests the fall and early spring. Heat exposure is always a risk during the summertime that will affect even avid anglers, and though his boat has a T-top, all day in that Texas heat can be taxing! On the day of your trip, Captain Brantley invites you to hop aboard his 2020 25 ft Tidewater Carolina Bay equipped with all the latest electronics and amenities along with a 300 Yamaha that will have you out fishing the bays in know time. Captain Kerry and crew usually like to meet up at Schaefer's Coastal Bar, but are more than happy to pick you up from any restaurant or Hotel on Clearlake/Kemah area. Seatrout are ambush predators, They can sit still and wait for a passing meal and then quickly grab it with their large teeth. They primarily feed on shrimp and baitfish such as mullet, pinfish, and pigfish. They are not picky, however, and will eat a huge range of live, natural, artificial baits and flies. I primarily fish for seatrout using artificial lures. Along the edges of flats in water 2-4 feet deep, trout can be caught using jigs with a soft plastic tail or a noise-making cork and plastic shrimp combo. In these locations, it is common to catch numerous fish in the 12-20 inch range. Up on the shallow grass flats, larger trout will lie in and along sandy spots, using them as ambush points. Anglers can blind cast across these areas using a soft plastic jerk bait or they can wait until individual fish are spotted and cast to them. Trophy-sized trout over 24″ are extremely sensitive to boat noise and will quickly swim off if they become aware of your presence. The spotted seatrout, or speckled trout as it is sometimes called, is found throughout the Gulf of Mexico region all year long. They account for the biggest number when it comes to the amount of fish caught by recreational anglers here. Local anglers usually refer to them simply as “trout”. While they make appear similar to freshwater trout, specks are in the drum family along with redfish, croaker, and black drum. The inside if their mouth is yellow and they generally have one or two large fangs in front surrounded by smaller teeth. Their scales are small and they are a delicate fish that cannot take much handling. Their bodies are covered in spots to help them hide in the grass beds. Seatrout are generally easier to catch for inexperienced or novice anglers. The fish in deeper water do not require the casting skill that is needed to sight fishing for redfish. typical blind casting technique with a wide range of retrieves will entice these fish to bite. Having a dehooking device while eliminating the need to handle every fish. Using barbless hooks will cause less damage to them and help ensure a healthy release.
