Fishing onboard the 36’ Yellowfin in the last couple of weeks has been very good in the Florida Keys, between Key Largo & Marathon. The predominant bite offshore has been swordfish & blackfin tunas. The swordfish have been holding well off the ledges & the blackfins are super thick on the humps. We are catching our limits on blackfin tuna just about every trip & a few mahi-mahi in the mix as an extra treat.
On the reefs & wrecks, the Yellowtail snapper / mutton bite has still been consistent on the reefs between 45- 90 feet of water and on the deeper water wrecks in 100 plus feet. Captain’s tip for deep water snapper fishing: Fishing the deeper water you gotta lock down your drag, wind hard & fast as possible, admire your fish when he’s on the boat, lol. This technique is to outrun the tax man aka Mr. Shark, who is surely lurking & seems to want your prized flag yellowtails or muttons a little bit more than we do.
The wahoo & first of the fall sailfish should start showing up in the next few weeks as more cold fronts approach our area. We are looking forward to live bait fishing and flying the kites for the spectacular top water aerial attack on the baits.

My wife and I and 13 year old son went on a six hour spearfishing tour with Torre and it was by far the highlight of our trip to the Keys. We ended up with a fridge full of lobster, snapper, cero mackerel and yellow jack and we turned it into sashimi, ceviche, lobster macaroni and beer battered fish. We saw hammerheads, goliath groupers and sea turtles. My wife and I had never spear fished before but we had a great time; much better than fishing. Torre was an amazing guide and clearly knew where to go and what to look for. Next time we’re in the Keys, this will be our first stop.

Great communication before and during the trip too. Fun day with Grandpa, two dads and three little girls learning the joy of fishing. Tom was great! He got our beginner group on lobsters and even though it was late in the season, we still caught a good amount of keepers. We inshore fished for a bit after we had enough water time. Fish were slow to bite but Tom worked hard to find hot spots so we could get on the fish. Great conversion, cool guy and overall we had a blast. I’d definitely recommend a trip with Captain Tom.
