Over the past few weeks, the freshwater action along the shorelines of our local lakes and ponds in Broward County has been absolutely heating up, and we’re starting to see some real giants show up. We’ve managed to land about a half dozen beautiful peacock bass in the 4-to-6-pound range, along with a few thick, hard-striking bullseye snakeheads that put up an incredible fight.

Another enjoyable day on South Florida's freshwater waterways targeting the colorful and hard-fighting peacock bass!
We finished the outing with 13 peacock bass, including a beautiful 4-pounder. Several larger fish also made appearances, providing some exciting encounters and a few memorable missed opportunities.
Fishing was a little challenging at times, but the peacocks provided plenty of excitement when they decided to cooperate.

Recent Everglades trip produced a special moment when a longtime fishing buddy put everything together and landed a new personal-best largemouth bass at 6 lbs on a hollow-body frog. High water made conditions challenging, but persistence paid off. We caught a handful of bass, with the big fish being the clear highlight of the day. Great reminder that sticking with a technique and learning the details can lead to a fish you’ll remember for a long time.

Fall has arrived in South Florida, the Sargassum has finally cleared out, and the fishing is getting good again!
It has been a tough summer for offshore fishing in Fort Lauderdale. The Sargassum weed was some of the worst we have seen in years, making trolling difficult and taking a lot of the fun out of offshore fishing.
But now, the weed is mostly gone and the fish are biting!
