The bay fishing has remained good through out the past couple of weeks. Catching solid redfish out on the flats around South Padre. Fresh cut mullet or ballyhoo rigged up and off the bottom is working great. Catching both reds and speckled trout on soft plastics that resemble mullet-type lures. Try working plastics slower than normal across sand potholes. Trout are hanging in deeper water transitions. Good time to go hook into some good fish here at South Padre.

Captain Mikes Fishing Report for South Padre Island 12/20/25. The bay fishing has been good throughout the past couple of weeks. The weather has remained warmer than usual and the fish are biting. Catching speckled trout along deeper water transitions and along channels. Larger artificial baits that resemble baitfish worked slowly has been producing some solid speckled trout. The windier days have been great days to hook into some redfish off the grass flats around South Padre Island. Fresh mullet rigged up and off the bottom has worked great on those redfish. You could also try swim baits and soft plastic worms out on the grass flats for those hungry reds. Expect the bite to remain solid as the weather remains warmer than usual.

All I can say is this was a great trip. Alfonso worked his tail off trying to find some clear water in 20 to 25 mph winds but we managed to get 3 fish. Even with all the winds my wife and I loved the experience with Alfonso. You can tell his passion is fishing and teaching you all he knows about Flounder gigging. We will be using Alfonso again and hopefully less winds next time.
