Blackfin Tuna Fishing Reports (April 2026)

Fishing is always more difficult with the weather in the winter, so if you’re looking for a constant bite we recommend spring but with that being said the tuna bite is really good so to each their own! We fish year round Trolling- plenty of Bonita around, blackfin Tuna are close in right now between 5-15 miles of the pass! Mahi can be found further offshore on weedlines! King mackerel are a hard bite this time of year but can be found near shore Bottom Fishing- Vermillions are in abundance right now and have some decent size to them too, triggerfish are on structure but finding a keeper may be another task! Plenty of perch and Ruby lips running around so if a fish fry is what you’re after then that will be too easy to get! Grouper bite is good right now as well as Almaco Jacks Capt Jon

It's beeen gooooood

Left the dock this morning breaking ice to get out of the marina, hope I didn't wake the hood up in the process as it was loud. Made our way to the bridge and the shoaling is bad, reading as little as 6in under the props, not fun in the dark. Buddy fisjed north yesterday and never turned a rod so we made our way to the south hoping to land on the blackfin. We worked hard and covered the grounds but the bite was slow. We had the marks but they were deep and stayed deep, eventually they had to come up, but just not while we were there. Got a little beat up the first 20miles home into a stiff north wind, thankfully it laid down and we made good time. We spent a little time searching for deep water through the shoal but it wasn't to be found. Finished the ride home with a pretty sunset and cut the few fish we had. Great groups of guys and we had a good time. Weather will allow us to fish Thurs and Friday if we get enough guys to get the trip together. They're out there, just gotta stay on em.

Fishing in the last couple of weeks has been outstanding in the Florida Keys, between Key Largo & Marathon. The water is cooling down & the bite is in full swing on the reef / wrecks & offshore. The predominant bite offshore has been sailfish & blackfin tunas. The sailfish have finally been showing up in good numbers between 100 - 180 feet & it’s only going to continue to get better as we get deeper into the season. We’ve been catching most of them slow trolling live bait & pitching live ballyhoo at bait showers. The blackfins are still super thick on the humps & it’s been nothing but pure fun! We are catching them in just about every way possible from trolling feathers, to live bait pilchards, to slow pitch jigging the Mobster! ( Captain Maurice’s secret weapon- try them) It’s also wahoo fishing time & I’ve been hearing of a few being caught. We onboard the Ace of Spades will actively start fishing for those hard fighting, tasty torpedoes throughout the holidays, so hopefully I’ll have something good to report on the next fishing report. On the reefs & wrecks, the Yellowtail snapper / mutton bite has still been consistent on the reefs between 45- 90 feet of water and on the deeper water wrecks in 100 plus feet. Also the Spanish, cero, & king mackerel bite has been insane on the patch reefs out to the deeper reefs.

Went out offshore this morning, clients hooked into 3 King Macks quick, then a pod of Dolphins moved in on us. Kings went down. and when the kings go down like that you’re wasting your time to stick around so we bumped it offshore. Hooked into a good size Mahi, had another ~20 pounder bust off. Then things went cold. So we picked it up and motored back to one of my favorite spots where we picked up a Bonito, 2 Baracuda, a 4-5ft Silky Shark, and to top it all off two lunker Black Fin Tuna! First was right under 20lbs and the second was pushing 30lbs if not over. Absolute studs. As far as an outlook goes, with this wind picking up and Tropical noise pushing up our way, we’ll be inland bass fishing for the next couple days. But given the bite today and recently, once the swells die down out there next week, I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be on Like Crazy!

The sunset blackfin tuna bite continues to be fun. The best action is happening on the 4 Inch blue/white williamson dolphin catchers. Set them way back in the pattern. They have been in the 250-300 foot depth to start and move shallower as it gets darker. They bite right up to sunset, then the bite dies off.

Yesterday full day blackfin tuna trip

Fishing onboard the 36’ Yellowfin in the last couple of weeks has been very good in the Florida Keys, between Key Largo & Marathon. The predominant bite offshore has been swordfish & blackfin tunas. The swordfish have been holding well off the ledges & the blackfins are super thick on the humps. We are catching our limits on blackfin tuna just about every trip & a few mahi-mahi in the mix as an extra treat. On the reefs & wrecks, the Yellowtail snapper / mutton bite has still been consistent on the reefs between 45- 90 feet of water and on the deeper water wrecks in 100 plus feet. Captain’s tip for deep water snapper fishing: Fishing the deeper water you gotta lock down your drag, wind hard & fast as possible, admire your fish when he’s on the boat, lol. This technique is to outrun the tax man aka Mr. Shark, who is surely lurking & seems to want your prized flag yellowtails or muttons a little bit more than we do. The wahoo & first of the fall sailfish should start showing up in the next few weeks as more cold fronts approach our area. We are looking forward to live bait fishing and flying the kites for the spectacular top water aerial attack on the baits. As the seasons change, we are awaiting the arrival of the winter fish—especially Sailfish! The typical fall patterns of late season Mahi and Blackfin Tunas are still in the area. The Florida Keys had very little damage and are up and running!
