The bite has been slow trolling this week but bottom fishing is on fire! We have caught tile fish, snapper, AJs, almacos, triggers, white snapper and grouper! The seas have been rough 3 footers was our best day, most days 5 footers around 4/5 seconds and overcast! Hopefully some good weather is to come.

Fishing report from Daniel G. in Beaufort, North Carolina

Spring temps have fish moving in from offshore. Inshore jigging can produce grey trout, bluefish, puffers, and sheepshead. Inshore red drum are schooled up in the marshes, casting artificials has been the most effective method

Triggerfish season started today, bite was solid and finding a day for calm seas like today is hard but the fishing is definitely picking up! Trolling is producing a few blackfin tuna and deep drop is producing some File Fish

The mangrove snapper are always biting inside Tampa Bay and as the water warms up the bite will get better. Along with the warming water temperatures the snook and redfish will be firing up.

Nearshore has been our go-to all week long with calm water and winds. We are fishing between 6 and 9 miles out in 40-60 feet of water using live shrimp. Lanes and mangrove snapper, sheepshead, white grunt, red and gag grouper have been our main targets and we have been catching a boat full of everything. Groups have been keeping me busy baiting hooks, it’s typical to get one fish for every bait that hits the bottom and we’ve got some good fighters out there for light tackle. A two ounce knocker rig on a 3/0 circle hook and 40 lb leader has been the setup that has been working best for these nearshore species. We take advantage of these calm days to go nearshore, they don’t come often enough this time of year and right on schedule the next week or so is looking to be windy and choppy in the deep water. Finding the window to go is imperative.
