Tuna trips are usually a bang or a bust ... The plan was to fish the island for a couple hours then go offshore in time for the "bite time" during the tuna season . We hit the island for amazing bass and barracuda fishing loading up the sacks and the headed offshore. This was our biggest fish this year! I will say that this day was looking like a bust . After leaving the grounds I got word that the fish were right off the beach in Palos Verdes . I changed course and headed straight there , within 20 minutes of being in the zone our rod went off taking line like it wasn't stopping . After 30 minutes we hauled over a 200+ bluefin tuna . Now it might look smaller .. that's because I'm 6'5 haha. It was almost my height ! What a day , everyone was stoked and got to take home so much meat . Beautiful fish and thankful for what we got! We had a Great group with us that comes out a few times a season. He said they want something big ! We were scanning a zone that I saw good meter marks of yellowtail on the fish finder . Weith non stop chumming and bass boiling around the boat the yellowtail became interested . My client just started yelling as his deaf just went bonkers . After a solid 20 minute fight one of the biggest yellowtail I've ever seen at Catalina island hit the deck . For sure the largest we've caught on the boat . This Yellowtail weighed in at 38lbs bled ! We call these Mossbacks and Homegaurd yellowtail. What an amazing season it's been for big fish !

Offshore has been hit or miss with mahi with a few good fish here and there . Finding some some nicer size triple tails on floaters occasionally . Tuna bite continues to be pretty consistent with some bigger fish coming up for live bait . Deep dropping for vermillion and yellow eye has been decent as well Shallow patches and wrecks have been on fire with yellow jacks . We had to mercy rule a few schools with multiple 10 pound plus fish being caught as well . Flag yellowtail have been finicky but managed some great bites on live bait drifting around wrecks . Overall fishing has been solid especially with the return of large schools of pilchards making their way back to the Channels .

Calm seas have left us with great opportunities on the reef , wrecks and off shore . The yellowtail Vite had been pretty good with several flags caught along with some other species like trigger fish , cero mackerel and our favorite yellow Jack . Off shore mahi has been hit or miss but when we hit we managed multiple keeper fish and occasional heavy lifter and gaffers . Tunas have been active at the humps in addition to some great amber Jack bites . Overall it has been a great summer so far and it's only getting better .

The fishing has been good on the reef.
A fun 4 hour morning reef trip today. We got throw back groupers (2 Short Reds and a protected Nassau) some delicious yellow jacks. This Angler got to fight some sharks too. The water was 1-2ft waves and we fished between 15ft and 80ft of water

Ian here at KingTriton Sport Fishing!!! So we got in to the Bluefin this last week before the bite slowed down. Had a few hookups on the Nomad MadMacs 200g Silver Pink stripe. Had a double hook up on yellowtail trolling by a kelp patty that turned in to a pretty good drift for some yellows which was super fun. The weather came up a bit so we plan to get back in to it this following week.
