About Your Trip

Head offshore with Captain Nathan for an unforgettable Pacific Ocean fishing adventure targeting some of the most exciting and hard-fighting game fish found anywhere on the West Coast. Whether you choose to fish local waters, make a run toward Catalina Island, or explore productive areas closer to the Mexican border, this trip is designed to put you in the best position possible to connect with trophy pelagic species and experience world-class offshore fishing.

The waters
off Southern California are famous for their seasonal runs of highly prized offshore fish, and Captain Nathan has the knowledge and experience to help you make the most of every opportunity. Depending on the time of year and current conditions, you'll be targeting species such as Yellowfin Tuna, Striped Marlin, Mahi Mahi, and other highly sought-after pelagic predators that roam these blue-water grounds. These fish are known for their incredible power, blistering runs, and spectacular fights, making every hookup an adrenaline-filled experience.

The fishing techniques used throughout the day may vary based on what species are active and where they are feeding. Trolling is one of the primary methods used to cover water and locate schools of fish, while drifting allows anglers to present baits naturally in productive areas. By adjusting trolling spreads, bait presentations, and depths, Captain Nathan and his crew can target different sections of the water column and adapt to changing conditions throughout the trip. This flexible approach helps maximize your chances of success while keeping the action varied and exciting.

One of the greatest aspects of fishing Southern California's offshore waters is the diversity of opportunities available on any given day. You may spend the morning trolling for marlin, switch to tuna fishing when a school is located, and finish the day targeting Mahi Mahi around floating structure. Every trip offers a unique experience, and the possibility of encountering multiple trophy species keeps anglers coming back year after year.

You'll be fishing aboard Captain Nathan's impressive 42' Hershine sportfisher, a vessel designed specifically for comfortable and productive offshore adventures. Equipped with a spacious cabin, live wells, quality trolling gear, and plenty of room to fish, this boat provides everything needed for a successful day on the water. The comfortable layout allows anglers to relax between bites while still being ready when the action heats up.

Captain Nathan and his crew provide all rods, reels, bait, tackle, ice, bottled water, and light snacks. A cooler is also available onboard for storing any food and drinks you choose to bring. Guests only need a valid California fishing license for anyone 16 years of age or older, along with sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, and weather-appropriate clothing.

Whether you're chasing your first tuna, hoping to battle a marlin, or simply looking to experience the excitement of Southern California offshore fishing, Captain Nathan has everything in place to make your trip a memorable one. Come experience the beauty of the Pacific and discover why these waters are considered one of the premier sportfishing destinations in North America.

The trip was alright. We probably had our lines in the water 15-20% of the time though which was disappointing. We felt like we were driving around a lot more than actually fishing. We understand that you have to drive to the spots you want to fish but the way it was done didn’t seem very efficient. We would book with someone else if we were to go again. There were 7 of us on a 6 hour trip and we only caught 4 fish. 3 of which were striped bass. We did get a sand shark at the end of the trip though which was cool. Trip didn’t provide any food, snacks or drinks so we had to bring our own which was a shame. Went home with an empty ice chest. The captain and deck hand were nice enough but we were mainly disappointed with the efficiency of the trip. The first hour and a half was just driving around to pick up live bait and get to a spot to cast.

Response from Captain Experiences:
Hey Maile, thanks for your review and for sharing your experience. We’re glad to hear Capt. Nathan and his deckhand were nice, and catching that sand shark sounds like an awesome time! However, we understand your disappointment with how much time was spent driving instead of fishing. We appreciate your feedback and will address these concerns with the team to improve future trips. Thanks again for sharing, and we hope you’ll give us the opportunity...

We had a great time on our trip with Captain Nathan’s crew! Noah was our skipper, and Nick was the deckhand. They were both helpful and engaging, and always there to lend a hand. Would definitely recommend for both beginner and experienced anglers!
