The deep offshore waters of the Big Island are legendary—and for good reason. On your trip, you’ll be targeting some of the Pacific’s most exciting pelagic species, including Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Shortbill Spearfish, Yellowfin Tuna (Ahi), Mahi Mahi, and Wahoo (Ono). These waters drop off quickly just minutes from shore, meaning more fishing time and better odds of getting hooked up.
Captain Shawn uses a full range of techniques—trolling, jigging, live bait, and both light and heavy tackle setups—to match the conditions and what’s biting. Fly fishing can also be arranged for experienced anglers, but you’ll need to bring your own gear.
You'll fish aboard a 26’ Shamrock sportfishing boat designed with both comfort and performance in mind. Outfitted with outriggers, downriggers, a fighting chair, and top-tier electronics like GPS, radar, and fish finders, this vessel is perfectly suited for big game action. There's even a private toilet on board, making this an excellent choice for families or full-day trips.
A skilled First Mate will be on hand throughout the trip to help with gear, baiting hooks, and landing fish. Mates work for tips, and a gratuity of 10–20% is customary based on the quality of your experience.
Trips are offered in 4-hour, 6-hour, and 8-hour options:
4-Hour Charter – A great mid-morning getaway for families or newer anglers. Target seasonal pelagics with trolling and light tackle, or request bottom fishing depending on sea conditions.
6-Hour Charter – Start at 6:00 AM and chase after Mahi, Marlin, Ono, and more as the sun rises over the Kona coast. Perfect for those who want a solid shot at big fish with a flexible approach.
8-Hour Charter – Go all-in on a full day of action. With plenty of time to cover ground and switch tactics, this trip is ideal for anglers looking to maximize their chances of hooking into something epic.
Rods, reels, tackle, lures, live bait, and bottled water are all included in the trip, along with catch cleaning and filleting back at the dock. Just bring snacks, sun protection (reef-safe, non-spray sunscreen only), polarized sunglasses, a hat, and weather-appropriate clothing. Moderate alcohol is welcome—just leave the glass bottles and hard liquor at home.
