About Your Trip
Get ready to explore the rich inshore waters of Galveston with Captain Jim — a lifelong angler whose passion for fishing started as a kid running offshore charters with his grandfather and grew into a career helping others chase trophy fish. Whether you’re here to learn the ropes, test your skills, or just enjoy a day on the water, Captain Jim’s mission is to put you on fish and keep the excitement going from start
to finish.
You’ll be fishing from a 25’ Robalo center console built for comfort, performance, and versatility. With room for up to 5 passengers, this boat is rigged with all the essentials: state-of-the-art Garmin GPS and fishfinder, a live bait well, wireless trolling motor for stealthy approaches, and an ice box to keep your catch fresh. It’s a true fishing machine, ready to tackle anything Galveston Bay throws your way.
On these 4- to 8-hour inshore trips, you can expect to target a variety of species depending on the season — from hard-fighting Redfish and Speckled Trout to Flounder, Black Drum, and even Sharks for those looking for a serious test of strength. In addition to working the protected bay waters, Captain Jim often takes the action to the legendary Galveston jetties, where currents and structure hold some of the biggest and most aggressive fish around. These rock walls are prime spots for big Reds, monster Drum, and even the occasional Jack Crevalle or Spanish Mackerel.
Captain Jim keeps things exciting by using multiple techniques, including light tackle for the thrill of big fish on smaller gear, heavy tackle for powerful fighters like sharks and oversized drum, as well as bottom and drift fishing to cover more ground and dial in on the bite.
Live bait is included for bay fishing, and if you’re going after sharks, you’ll spend the first 15–20 minutes of your trip catching fresh bait — a fun and hands-on start to the adventure. All rods, reels, tackle, and lures are provided, so you can focus on fishing while Captain Jim handles the rest.
Before you come aboard, you’ll need to grab a local fishing license for everyone in your group. Be aware that certain species may be off-limits or require special tags — Captain Jim can fill you in on the details before you hit the water. Pack sunscreen (non-spray), sunglasses, bottled water, and your favorite snacks or drinks. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but please leave the hard liquor, glass bottles, and — very importantly — bananas at home.
With Captain Jim’s experience, top-tier equipment, and access to both Galveston Bay and its powerhouse jetties, this trip offers the perfect blend of action, learning, and good times on the water. All that’s missing is you.
