About Your Trip
Head out from the historic harbor of Kailua-Kona with Captain John for an unforgettable day on the water. With years of experience and a deep passion for offshore fishing, Captain John knows these waters like the back of his hand and is dedicated to delivering a personalized and exciting trip for anglers of all skill levels. Whether you're a first-timer just getting the hang of trolling or a seasoned angler chasing your next big prize,
every charter is tailored to make the most of your time on the water.
Kona’s unique geography means deep sea action starts just minutes from shore. You won’t waste time running long distances—instead, you’ll jump right into productive waters where pelagic heavyweights like Blue Marlin, Mahi Mahi, Yellowfin Tuna, Ono (Wahoo), and Shortbill Spearfish roam. Trolling is the name of the game here, and Captain John will get you set up with all the gear and instruction needed to fish effectively and confidently.
The half-day trip, running about 4 to 5 hours, is perfect for beginners or those with limited time. You'll cruise just offshore, targeting species like Mahi Mahi, Yellowfin Tuna, and sometimes even Blue Marlin, depending on conditions. It’s a focused, high-energy outing that gives you a great taste of Kona’s world-renowned deep sea fishing without committing to a full day. With all tackle provided and hands-on guidance every step of the way, it’s an ideal choice for families and first-time anglers looking to dive into the action.
If you're looking for more time to fish, the 3/4-day charter offers six hours of adventure and even more chances to hook into the fish of a lifetime. This trip provides a balanced mix of fishing and optional snorkeling in the pristine waters of Kealakekua Bay. It’s a great way to mix some underwater sightseeing into your day without sacrificing your shot at big game species like Blue Marlin and Tuna. Captain John will work with you to plan the day around your goals—whether that’s chasing trophies or simply enjoying Kona’s stunning marine life.
For those ready to go all-in, the full-day charter gives you the time and range to explore Kona’s legendary offshore ledges and current lines. Over the course of 8+ hours, you’ll work multiple zones to maximize your chances at hooking into Blue Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and more. There’s also the option to break up the action with a snorkeling stop in Kealakekua Bay, giving you the full spectrum of what Kona’s waters have to offer. This trip is designed with beginner anglers in mind, and Captain John’s patient guidance ensures a relaxed and rewarding experience from start to finish.
All gear is provided, but be sure to bring your own food, drinks, and sun protection. You’ll also need a Hawaii non-resident marine fishing license, which can be purchased online before the trip. Depending on current fuel prices, a $100 fuel surcharge may apply.
Tipping is not included in the charter cost, but a gratuity of 15–20% is customary and always appreciated for excellent service.
Whether you're hoping to battle a Marlin, fill the cooler with fresh Mahi, or simply enjoy a day cruising Kona’s deep blue waters, Captain John is ready to give you a fishing trip you won’t soon forget.
