Captain John West offers once-in-a-lifetime Louisiana fly fishing charters for Redfish, Speckled Trout, Sheepshead, and other Louisiana inshore species. Be careful as these adrenaline-filled charters might become an annual pilgrimage to the tailing Redfish of the Southern Louisiana wetlands.
A Florida native, John grew up fishing the freshwater lakes and saltwater flats of West Central Florida. He developed a love for sight fishing Redfish on the Homosassa and Chassahowitzka Rivers, and honed his Redfish and Speckled Trout skills fishing the Upper Texas Coast and Western Louisiana Coast while attending Texas A&M University.
Central Arkansas is where John learned to fly fish. Casting to big Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout on the Little Red, White, and Norfork Rivers, the sport captured his attention, and he returned to the Gulf Coast to catch Redfish on the fly.
Several years ago, John discovered the unparalleled fly fishing opportunities offered by the marshes of the Mississippi River Delta surrounding New Orleans and South Louisiana. He settled down immediately and founded Blue Mudd Fly Fishing to chase Louisiana Bull Redfish among all else.

If you're looking to book a long awaited fishing trip for redfish around New Orleans then I suggest you call John at Blue Mudd Charters. We went with him last Thursday & Friday and truly had an Epic Trip. We reeled in over 8 Bull Reds, some smaller reds, and trout. Thanks John. Hope to see you next year.
Had the pleasure of going fishing with John this past weekend. My father in law and I were hoping to land our first big redfish on a fly rod. John did not disappoint! We learned a lot and had a great time. I am fairly new to fly fishing and John was very helpful. I would highly recommend booking a trip with blue mudd charters. Thanks John!
Had a great day on the water yesterday! Fantastic guide! I have to say ... I skunked the men!!
