About Your Trip

Step into the shallow waters of Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor with Captain Rex for a world-class fly fishing experience focused on precision, technique, and the beauty of the backcountry.

With decades of local experience and credentials as an IFFF Master Casting Instructor, Captain Rex isn’t just your guide—he’s your coach on the water. Whether you're new to fly fishing or a seasoned angler looking to refine your cast, Rex brings deep knowledge, patience, and
passion to every trip, making each outing both productive and educational.

You'll be fishing aboard a sleek Action Craft flats skiff, purpose-built for quiet stalking and shallow water access. These half- and full-day adventures take you into some of Southwest Florida’s most scenic and productive waters, including Charlotte Harbor, Bull and Turtle Bay, Gasparilla Sound, Lemon Bay, and the winding creeks of Pine Island Sound. Expect calm mornings, mangrove-lined shorelines, and wide-open flats—ideal terrain for fly fishing’s most rewarding moments.

Your targets? Boca Grande’s inshore favorites: Redfish, Snook, and Spotted Seatrout. These species are challenging, aggressive, and perfectly suited for fly gear. Sight-casting to tailing redfish or watching a snook explode on a well-placed fly is what this fishery is all about.

Every trip includes:

- Top-tier fly rods, reels, and custom-tied flies
- On-the-water casting instruction (if desired)
- Light spin tackle available upon request
- Cooler with ice for your drinks and snacks
- Full fishing license and all necessary gear

Whether you’re exploring new techniques, chasing personal bests, or just soaking in the quiet beauty of the backcountry, Captain Rex’s fly fishing trips offer a relaxed, skill-focused way to enjoy some of Florida’s finest inshore waters.

Book your trip today and discover why fly anglers consider Boca Grande a hidden gem—and Captain Rex one of the best in the business.

Whether you're just picking up a fly rod for the first time or looking to refine your double haul, there’s no better teacher than Captain Rex. Based in Southwest Florida near the famed waters of Boca Grande, Rex is a Federation Fly Fishers Master Certified Instructor—and one of the most sought-after casting coaches in the country. His reputation for excellence isn’t just local either; he’s been featured in top outdoor magazines, appeared on ESPN, FSN South, and the Outdoor Channel, and earned the respect of fly-fishing legends. As Lefty Kreh put it: “Rex can teach anyone to cast... He’s one of the best!”

Captain Rex brings a rare blend of deep technical expertise and a laid-back, wise-cracking attitude that makes every trip both productive and fun. Whether he's on his knees showing a kid how to lay out a line or helping an experienced angler tighten up their loop, Rex has an unmatched ability to adapt his teaching style to the needs of every client.

Now guiding full-time in the Sarasota–Boca Grande area, Rex is passionate about sharing his love for the water, the fish, and the art of fly-casting. You’ll leave each trip or lesson more confident, more skilled, and more excited about the sport than ever before. With Captain Rex, the learning curve is short, the laughs are plenty, and the casts are tight.
