Reef fishing in Key West is unlike anywhere else, with thousands of reef patches stretching all the way to the Dry Tortugas. Many of these spots are seldom fished, which means they stay loaded with fish and ready for action. Target species include black, gag, and red grouper, along with yellowtail and mutton snapper, plus the occasional barracuda that will keep things interesting.

About Your Trip

Reef fishing in Key West is unlike anywhere else, with thousands of reef patches stretching all the way to the Dry Tortugas. Many of these spots are seldom fished, which means they stay loaded with fish and ready for action. Target species include black, gag, and red grouper, along with yellowtail and mutton snapper, plus the occasional barracuda that will keep things interesting.

Reef fishing is one of the most reliable ways to stay busy
on the water. Captain Chuck uses a combination of live bait, dead bait, and chumming to fire up the reef and create an aggressive feeding frenzy. The trick is to draw the snapper and grouper up into the chum line, away from the reef itself, where they’ll compete for your bait. Yellowtail and mangrove snapper often light up the spread, with other species like mackerel and jacks joining the mix. These trips are perfect for anglers looking for steady action and the chance to learn the subtle “feel” of the bite, making them just as exciting for beginners as they are for seasoned fishermen.

Your trip takes place on Captain Chuck’s 31’ Yellowfin center console, equipped with twin Suzuki 225hp engines, twin live wells, oversized fish boxes, and advanced electronics to keep you on productive spots all day. With plenty of shade under the T-top and a fully enclosed head for comfort, the ride to and from the reef is as enjoyable as the fishing itself. Custom-built rods paired with Shimano and Van Staal reels give you the right tools to go head-to-head with the reef’s toughest fighters.

Independent Guide
Hi, I'm Capt. Chuck. Let me tell you a little about my experience and myself. I have been fishing the waters of Key West and the Marquesas since I was in high school, As a youngster, I spent three years in the Philippines diving and spear fishing - practically living on the coral reef. In Key West I learned where to go and how to catch the fish before high tech navigation. I live to fish, so much so that, I decided to make it my occupation.

I have spent countless hours diving on the reefs in the Far East and off Key West observing how fish behave and learning which bait works best which fish in which conditions. That experience along with fishing commercially for past eighteen seasons has really given me a deep understanding of how and why, when and where the fish bite. My true passion is to be out of the water, putting people on fish and seeing how excited they get when hooked up with their "big one"! I have guided hundreds of anglers, from novice to expert, to trophy catches. My goal is your complete satisfaction. Regardless of your fishing skill level I Am completely dedicated to making your charter fishing trip the experience of a lifetime.
