About Your Trip

Captain Joe runs this six-hour nearshore trip out of St. Petersburg, heading out to wherever the fish are biting that day, whether that means dropping down on structure or working the flats depending on conditions and trip length. The approach is built around versatility, giving you a real shot at a varied catch across multiple environments in a single outing.

Bottom fishing targets snapper, hogfish, and grouper, three of the most prized table fish in
the Gulf, while time spent on the flats opens up snook, trout, redfish, and a range of other inshore species. Captain Joe moves between these styles based on what the day calls for, making the most of both nearshore structure and shallow water opportunities within the trip.

Custom light tackle and medium action rods, paired with top-of-the-line reels, are part of the standard setup, giving Captain Joe the right tools to get fish to the boat efficiently regardless of species or technique. The boat is outfitted with a live well to keep bait fresh, a trolling motor for precise positioning on the flats, and a Garmin fishfinder unit to help locate structure and fish throughout the trip.

The 25-foot Proline center console, powered by a 200-horsepower Suzuki, is a solid, capable platform for working both nearshore structure and shallow flats within the same trip. There's no onboard restroom, so plan accordingly for the six hours on the water.

Book a trip with Captain Joe out of St. Petersburg and experience the variety that makes Tampa Bay's nearshore and flats fishery worth exploring.
