About Your Trip

The nearshore reefs off Folly Beach fish differently throughout the season, and Captain Michael's three to six hour reef trip is built to take advantage of whatever the time of year is offering. From early spring through early summer, this stretch of South Carolina coast delivers a rotating lineup of species and techniques that keeps the fishing fresh and varied with each passing month.

Early spring brings some of the best topwater action of the
year, with Spanish mackerel, bluefish, false albacore, and Atlantic bonito all feeding aggressively on the surface and willing to crush a well-presented lure. Casting to these fish on light tackle is fast-paced and exciting, with multiple species often feeding in the same area at the same time. Spring is also the prime window for jigging the reefs, where large redfish, weakfish, and black drum hold on structure and respond well to vertical presentations worked through the water column.

As late spring rolls into early summer, spadefish and cobia move into the picture. Spadefish school up around the boat and near the surface, making them remarkably accessible and pound for pound one of the harder fighting fish available on these reefs. Cobia add another dimension entirely, a powerful and sought-after species that draws serious attention from anglers up and down the East Coast during their seasonal run through the Lowcountry.

The 26-foot Pathfinder center console handles the nearshore run comfortably, equipped with a live bait well, wireless trolling motor, GPS, fishfinder, and radar. An onboard restroom keeps the trip comfortable for the full duration, and Captain Michael puts in the work throughout the trip to find fish and make the most of whatever the reefs are producing that day.

Book a reef trip with Captain Michael out of Folly Beach and get on the water during one of the most productive seasonal windows on the South Carolina coast.

Michael was good, DOUG our captain was amazing! Having a knowledgeable Cpt that knows and says why things are happening and how they are connected to us fishing was great, also helped my nephew win a bet on the Spider-Man pole! Cost me $10 but worth it and kids loved it too! Thanks again Cpt Doug!
