About Your Trip

This is where remote jungle meets the wild Caribbean Sea—and where anglers come to battle some of the biggest tarpon on the planet. Just north of the Panama border and deep within the Gandoca Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge, this off-the-grid destination offers an incredible fishing experience guided by Giuliano and his expert team.

Designed for two anglers per boat and room, this package is perfect for fishing partners seeking both adventure and comfort in one
of Costa Rica’s most productive and untouched fisheries.

These waters are famous for producing Silver Kings in the 80–90 lb range, but it’s not unusual to hook into fish tipping the scales at 150–200+ lbs. Whether you’re casting a fly or working a lure, the tarpon here are aggressive, powerful, and relentless. If landing a 120+ lb tarpon is your goal, this is one of the best places on Earth to do it.

But tarpon aren’t the only stars of the show. Depending on conditions and your preferences, you may also encounter snook, cubera snapper, jacks, kingfish, triggerfish, and even mahi-mahi. You’ll also have the chance to fish the Gondoca Lagoon, a peaceful backwater lined with mangroves where baby tarpon and snook lurk.

Each day begins with breakfast at the lodge, followed by a short walk to the creek where your captain will be waiting. Fishing days can be split into two sessions or spent as one continuous trip with lunch on the boat or beach. The boat ride to the fishing grounds takes just 20–30 minutes, depending on where the fish are holding. If you'd like to adjust your fishing style or target species, just let Giuliano or the lodge manager know in advance so the guides can prepare accordingly.

Daily Schedule (Split Fishing):

6:30 AM – Breakfast

6:50 AM – Depart for fishing

11:00 AM – Return to lodge

12:00 PM – Lunch

2:00 PM – Return to fishing grounds

5:30 PM – Return & Happy Hour (beer, rum, appetizers)

7:00 PM – Dinner

The accommodations are simple, cozy, and just steps from the sea. Each room includes air conditioning, ceiling fan, private bathroom, and comfortable beds—offering a cool, quiet retreat after a long day on the water. Surrounded by rainforest and the sound of the surf, the setting is peaceful and completely unplugged.

Meals are made fresh daily by local chefs and feature bold Creole flavors, fresh-caught fish, and tropical produce. Special dietary needs are no problem—whether you’re vegetarian, allergic, or just have strong food preferences, the staff is happy to accommodate.

Fishing here is best during two main seasons: spring (late February to May 31) and fall (August 1 to October 31). Both seasons offer ideal conditions, active fish, and exciting opportunities for tarpon and more.

Trip lengths are flexible, with options including 4 nights/3 fishing days all the way up to 8 nights/7 fishing days. All packages include lodging, guided fishing, all meals, and drinks during happy hour.

Whether it’s your first time chasing tarpon or your fiftieth, Giuliano and his crew will give you their full attention, local knowledge, and dedication to make your trip truly unforgettable. This is one of the last truly wild tarpon fisheries left—where the fish are big, the jungle is alive, and the adventure is real.
