About Your Trip

Escape the crowds and explore one of Eleuthera’s hidden treasures with Captain John’s Schooner Cays & Snorkel Excursion. Just a few miles from Cape Eleuthera, the Schooner Cays are a remote chain of pristine, uninhabited islands surrounded by shallow turquoise waters, white sandbars, and vibrant patch reefs—an unforgettable slice of untouched paradise.

Your adventure begins aboard Captain John’s comfortable 30’ Proline, powered by twin 250HP Yamaha outboards. With a wide, stable ride, shaded seating, a
cabin for relaxing, and a head (toilet) onboard, you'll travel in comfort as you make your way to these postcard-perfect cays.

Once there, walk along deserted beaches, go shelling on the sandbar, and capture incredible photos with the endless blue horizon as your backdrop. Wade and play in warm, shallow waters, or simply unwind in the sun while taking in the peaceful beauty of the area.

Along the way, you’ll snorkel patch reefs teeming with colorful marine life, and if the timing is right, watch Captain John dive for fresh conch. You’ll even get to enjoy the freshest conch salad in The Bahamas, prepared right on the boat or the beach.

Snorkel gear, water, and ice are included—just bring your towel, sunscreen, snacks or lunch, and any drinks you’d like to enjoy. Whether you're looking to explore, swim, snorkel, or just relax in a picture-perfect setting, this Schooner Cays excursion offers the ultimate off-the-beaten-path experience in South Eleuthera.

Independent Guide
Captain John has worked as a dive master and boat captain at the Cape Eleuthera Marina hosting guests from Milan to Hollywood. Building his knowledge of the waters across the archipelago, he served as a dive master at Andros Beach Inn and operated Sea and Ski Ocean Sports in Paradise Island. Before starting Big Mac Fishing & Boat Tours, John was a captain for a 53’ Hatteras for many years and won several tournaments with its owners. With 40 years of experience, he knows the waters, fish and reefs of The Bahamas like the back of his hand.

A “Mac of All Trades,” he has also run construction companies in Harbour Island and Eleuthera, led a Junkanoo group to several major titles and serves as the Chief Councilor for South Eleuthera in his spare time. As a property manager he has earned over 100 five-star reviews on Airbnb and VRBO. An aficionado of the local Rake ‘n’ Scrape music, John plays the saw and the Goombay Drum. He loves sharing his island, its culture and its sights with visitors. Captain John is a great cook. If you can catch it, he can tell you how to cook it, local style!

John is a captain with an A license in The Bahamas, as well as STCW and CPR certifications. He is a PADI Dive Master.
