About Your Trip

Born and raised in Tarpum Bay, Captain John has spent a lifetime exploring the waters of South Eleuthera. With over 40 years of local fishing experience, he brings deep knowledge, a welcoming personality, and a love for the sea to every trip. Whether you’re an experienced angler or just getting started, a day on the water with Captain John is as authentic as it gets.

You'll be fishing aboard a 30’ Proline center console, powered
by twin 250HP Yamaha outboards. This boat offers a smooth, stable ride with plenty of space, plus a cuddy cabin for shade or naps, a head (toilet), freshwater shower, and all the necessary safety gear for a safe and comfortable trip.

On a half-day charter, you’ll stay close to shore and fish some of Captain John’s favorite reefs and drop-offs, just minutes from the dock. Depending on the season, you might troll for tuna, mahi-mahi, wahoo, mackerel, or kingfish, or try your luck on the reef with triggerfish, strawberry grouper, or yellowtail snapper. It’s the perfect blend of action and scenery—great for families, beginners, and anyone looking to enjoy a few relaxing hours offshore. Non-anglers can soak up the turquoise views, enjoy a dip at a shallow reef, or just relax onboard.

Looking for more time to explore? A full-day trip gives you the chance to venture farther and fish deeper. Go after the same exciting pelagic species, or try deep dropping for snapper. These trips offer more flexibility and are ideal for anglers who want to go all in, while still leaving time for reef swims, scenic cruising, and a laid-back lunch break onboard or on a quiet beach.

Tackle, bait, snorkel gear, water, and ice are all included. Guests are asked to bring their own towels, snacks or lunch, and any specialty drinks. Gratuity for the captain is not included but always appreciated.

With convenient departures from Tarpum Bay, Davis Harbour, or Cape Eleuthera, and world-class fishing just a quarter mile offshore, Captain John offers an unforgettable way to experience the best of the Bahamas—on the water, with a local who knows it like the back of his hand.

Captain John has worked as a dive master and boat captain at the Cape Eleuthera Marina hosting guests from Milan to Hollywood. Building his knowledge of the waters across the archipelago, he served as a dive master at Andros Beach Inn and operated Sea and Ski Ocean Sports in Paradise Island. Before starting Big Mac Fishing & Boat Tours, John was a captain for a 53’ Hatteras for many years and won several tournaments with its owners. With 40 years of experience, he knows the waters, fish and reefs of The Bahamas like the back of his hand.

A “Mac of All Trades,” he has also run construction companies in Harbour Island and Eleuthera, led a Junkanoo group to several major titles and serves as the Chief Councilor for South Eleuthera in his spare time. As a property manager he has earned over 100 five-star reviews on Airbnb and VRBO. An aficionado of the local Rake ‘n’ Scrape music, John plays the saw and the Goombay Drum. He loves sharing his island, its culture and its sights with visitors. Captain John is a great cook. If you can catch it, he can tell you how to cook it, local style!

John is a captain with an A license in The Bahamas, as well as STCW and CPR certifications. He is a PADI Dive Master.
