Captain Nathan Ball’s deep-rooted connection to the Mississippi Gulf Coast is the foundation of every trip. Having spent his life exploring these local bays and barrier islands, Nathan has dedicated the last six years specifically to mastering the nuances of our coastal waters. His transition from a career as a high school teacher to a full-time fishing guide was fueled by a desire to share his passion with others while building a legacy for his family. This background in education shines through in his guiding style; he is naturally patient, a clear communicator, and an expert at breaking down techniques for beginners while still talking shop with seasoned anglers.

Trust and comfort are the hallmarks of a day on the water with Captain Nathan. He understands that a successful charter isn’t just measured by the weight of the fish box, but by the quality of the experience. Nathan prides himself on creating a welcoming, low-pressure environment where guests feel like friends rather than just customers. Whether he is explaining the migration patterns of Cobia or helping a child land their very first Sheepshead, his goal is to provide a relaxed atmosphere where everyone feels safe and empowered. His local expertise and genuine personality ensure that you aren't just hiring a boat driver, but a knowledgeable host who truly cares about the memories you take home.

Beyond the technical skills of finding fish, Captain Nathan brings a unique perspective to the ecosystem of the Gulf Coast. His experience collaborating with local dolphin research programs allows him to offer informed insights into the marine life that calls these waters home. This specialized knowledge adds a layer of depth to every excursion, whether you are sight-fishing for Jacks or enjoying a sunset cruise. By prioritizing education, safety, and a customized pace, Nathan ensures that every group—from families with young children to groups of lifelong friends—receives a premier experience tailored to their specific interests and skill levels.

Rapid Fire Guide Q & A

What’s the biggest fish you’ve caught?
The biggest fish I have caught was a 46 inch Cobia
If you were cooking for all your friends what would you cook?
Sheepshead Hibachi! My favorite meal to cook for large crowds. If I don't have sheepshead, shrimp make a perfect back up option.

Rapid Fire Guide Q & A

What’s the biggest fish you’ve caught?

Sheepshead Hibachi! My favorite meal to cook for large crowds. If I don't have sheepshead, shrimp make a perfect back up option.
What’s your favorite band?
I don't have a favorite band. I like most genres of music and listen to pretty much anything.
What’s your favorite sports team?
Ole Miss! Hotty Toddy!
What’s your drink of choice?
nothing beats a good Old Fashioned
What do you want for Christmas this year?
Either an active target system for the boat or a Barnett Crossbow.
How did you get started guiding?
I was a band director for 11 years. Early nights were 8 pm getting home most nights of the week. My daughter started realizing how little I was home and would beg me to stay home and play instead of go to work. I decided it was time to change careers that allowed me to see my kids more and be a better Dad. My wife suggested I fish full time (I know guys, jackpot) and I dove head first into becoming a captain and building a career out of it.
What makes you different from other guides?
I believe connecting with whoever is on the boat is the most important thing about what I do. People book the business or the boat first, but after that, it's on me to make sure I am able to get people on fish and help create lasting memories that make them want to fish with me again. Friendships built through fishing and fellowship are what is most important to me and in the long run, if I can do that on a consistent basis, then I am doing the right things for people trusting me with their time. I also really enjoy working with kids and helping them learn how to fish. That is probably from my background in education, but helping kids get hooked on fishing is one of the many highlights to why I love this career.
