For a full-day adventure with a relaxed pace, Captain Mike’s Split Day Smallmouth Trip is a great way to experience the world-class fishing of Lake St. Clair or Lake Erie. Designed for anglers who want a break in the middle of the day without cutting the fishing short, this trip includes 4 hours of morning fishing, a 1-hour lunch stop at the Sandbar Restaurant, and 4 more hours on the water in the afternoon. (Lunch not included in the trip price.)

You’ll fish from a 2018 22’ Ranger 522D, one of the best big-water bass boats on the market. It’s spacious, dry, and ultra-stable—equipped with a 250hp Evinrude G2 HO, dual air suspension seats, Ultrex trolling motor with Spot Lock, Power Poles with drift paddles, and advanced Garmin and Humminbird electronics including Livescope. This boat is tournament-level and ready for anything the lake throws your way.

Whether you're hunting trophy smallmouth, learning new techniques, or just want a fun day on the water, Mike brings over 30 years of experience on these lakes—recreationally, competitively, and professionally—and will tailor the trip to your skill level and goals. You’ll be fishing with top-quality gear from Shimano, Daiwa, Duckett, Lew’s, Mega Jigs, Nishine Lure Works, and more.

Split day trips are especially popular for anglers who want the full-day fishing experience with a chance to reset midday. The Sandbar Restaurant is a convenient and popular dockside spot for lunch—great food and a comfortable break before jumping back into the action.

This trip includes all rods, reels, tackle, and baits. Just bring your Canadian fishing license (or U.S. license if fishing American waters in spring), snacks, drinks, sunscreen, and anything else you want for a comfortable day. If you’re bringing kids under 13, make sure they have a properly fitted life vest—life jackets must be worn when the big motor is running.

Mike’s goal is always to give you a fun, safe, and rewarding day on the water. The bite may vary with the conditions, but you can count on a guide who’s committed to putting in the work to help you connect with fish—and enjoy every part of the journey.

I run a 22’ 2018 Ranger 522d with a 250hp evinrude g2 HO, widely considered the best big water bass boat on the market. It’s incredibly stable, safe, spacious, dry and fast. It is loaded and tournament ready, featuring an Ultrex trolling motor with Spot Lock, 4 graphs (Garmin and Humminbird), Garmin livescope, hydrowave, 10’ power poles with drift paddles, two air suspension seats for added comfort on bumpy days, dual livewells with oxygenators in both, pedestal seats, built in coolers and ample storage space.

I only use high end equipment for my clients. All rods, reels, baits and line are from well known reputable companies such as Daiwa, Shimano, Lews, Duckett, Anglers Choice, Mega Jigs, Nishine Lure Works, Seaguar and Ygk.

My goal is for you to have a great time first and foremost and catch the fish of a lifetime on the best smallmouth fishery on earth

Everything is included, but we also recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, and anything else you might want on the trip.
You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.
We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).
Cancel for free up to 14 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 14 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.
In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.

Additional costs may include leases, marina or slip fees, and the expenses involved in providing and maintaining the necessary gear for your trip.
