If you're looking to experience the best of Lake Erie fishing, Captain Shane offers targeted Walleye, Yellow Perch, and Smallmouth Bass trips that showcase this renowned fishery through late summer and fall.

These are 6-hour half-day trips for up to 3 guests, focused on Lake Erie's most popular gamefish and table fare. Whether you're looking to troll open water or jig along structure, you'll be fishing with high-quality gear in productive locations.

Trip Types

Walleye Trolling (Late June – September)

Walleye—also known as Pickerel—are a Lake Erie favorite, and summer is the prime season. From late June into July, post-spawn Walleye begin shifting into deeper water. By August and September, they are feeding consistently and often found in large numbers.

These trolling trips offer a mix of opportunities: solid “eater” fish and a chance at larger Walleye over 8 lbs. Departures typically take place from Fort Erie, Crystal Beach, or Port Colborne, depending on conditions.

Tip: If you plan to keep fish, consider purchasing a Sportfishing License, which allows for a full daily limit. A Conservation License permits only half limits.

Yellow Perch Jigging (September – October)

Fall is the peak time for Yellow Perch fishing on Lake Erie. These fish are prized for their flavor and often caught in good numbers using light tackle. Trips are suited for a wide range of anglers, from first-timers to seasoned pros.

Departure locations for Perch trips typically include Fort Erie, Crystal Beach, and Port Colborne.

Smallmouth Bass Fishing (Late September – October)

Fall is also prime time for Lake Erie's Smallmouth Bass. These trips focus on jigging or casting for aggressive, hard-fighting bass—known for their size and fight in the fall months.

Depending on conditions, these trips generally depart from Port Maitland, Port Colborne, or Crystal Beach.

Shane has been chasing fish on Lake Ontario and Lake Erie since 1988 and stepped into the charter world in 1994. With decades on the water and deep roots in the Great Lakes fishing community, he brings an unmatched blend of experience, professionalism, and passion to every trip.

Over the years, Shane has worked extensively within the tackle industry as a sales consultant, product tester, and ambassador for several respected brands. He’s a familiar face at sportsmen’s shows, salmon schools, and local fishing clubs, delivering multiple seminars each year on Great Lakes techniques. His knowledge has been featured in fishing publications, and he’s earned multiple tournament wins across Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.

In 2008, Shane was invited to join the Fisheries Management Zone 20 Advisory Council, where he continues to serve—helping shape the future of the fishery he loves.

On the water, safety and professionalism are top priorities. Shane holds certifications as a Small Commercial Vessel Operator, Marine Emergency Duties, Marine First Aid, and Marine Radio Operator with DSC. He has also completed advanced boating courses through the Canadian Power Squadron.

Off the water, Shane is a husband and father of two, an active member of his community, and a Project Management Professional with a background in Geographic Information Systems and Aquaculture Technology. When he’s not guiding trips, he works with the City of Hamilton’s Public Works Department and stays involved in public speaking through Toastmasters.

Fishing with Shane means learning from someone who has dedicated his life to the Great Lakes—both on the water and behind the scenes.

Everything is included, but we also recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, and anything else you might want on the trip.

You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.

We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).

Cancel for free up to 7 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 7 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.

In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.

Additional costs may include leases, marina or slip fees, and the expenses involved in providing and maintaining the necessary gear for your trip.
