About Your Trip

Captain Shane invites you aboard for an unforgettable fishing experience on Lake Ontario, where the seasons bring an ever-changing lineup of exciting game fish. Whether you're chasing trophy Chinook or introducing your kids to their first Rainbow Trout, you'll benefit from Shane’s extensive local knowledge and years of experience on these waters. All gear is provided—just bring your license, cooler, and a sense of adventure.

Lake Ontario Fishing Overview

You’ll fish aboard a fully equipped
vessel designed for comfort and serious angling. All rods, reels, and tackle are provided. Just show up ready to fish and let Captain Shane handle the rest.

Species targeted include:
- Chinook Salmon
- Coho Salmon
- Brown Trout
- Lake Trout
- Rainbow Trout (Steelhead)

Seasonal Highlights

Late March – Late April: Brown Trout
Start your season with hard-hitting Browns along the shallow shorelines from Grimsby to Niagara-on-the-Lake. Conditions can be tricky but rewarding, especially for early-season anglers.

Late April – May: Spring Chinook
These “King” Salmon are some of the hardest-fighting fish of the year. You’ll find them near the Niagara shoreline—aggressive and full of power.

June: Transition Period
Salmon activity slows briefly as lake temperatures shift, but Lake Trout and Coho provide plenty of action.

July: Peak Season
Expect strong numbers and some of the largest Chinooks of the year, along with great Coho, Lake Trout, and Rainbow Trout fishing. This is the most popular time to book, so plan early.

August – Early September: Staging Salmon
Mature Chinooks move close to shore near river mouths. It’s a high-risk, high-reward time for trophy hunters. Hookups are intense and the fights are long.

Late May – Early July: Coho Salmon
Fast, aggressive, and ideal for family fun. These fish strike hard and fight harder—great table fare and even better action.

April – September: Lake Trout
Available all season, but best in May and June when trolling is hot. Jigging picks up in June and July near drop-offs and reefs.

Late May – Mid September: Rainbow Trout (Steelhead)
Rainbows become more active as summer progresses. Late July through September offers your best shot at big Steelhead, especially offshore.

Before You Go
Please come prepared with:
- A valid Ontario fishing license (ages 18–65)
- A large cooler (100 qt or larger)
- Warm layers and a rain jacket—it’s cooler on the water
- Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages
- Sunscreen, sunglasses, soft-soled shoes
- A fully charged phone for photos

No alcohol is allowed on the boat.

This is more than just a fishing trip—it’s a chance to explore one of the Great Lakes’ premier fisheries with a dedicated guide who knows how to put you on fish, teach you the tactics, and help create a memory you’ll be talking about for years.

Shane has been chasing fish on Lake Ontario and Lake Erie since 1988 and stepped into the charter world in 1994. With decades on the water and deep roots in the Great Lakes fishing community, he brings an unmatched blend of experience, professionalism, and passion to every trip.

Over the years, Shane has worked extensively within the tackle industry as a sales consultant, product tester, and ambassador for several respected brands. He’s a familiar face at sportsmen’s shows, salmon schools,
and local fishing clubs, delivering multiple seminars each year on Great Lakes techniques. His knowledge has been featured in fishing publications, and he’s earned multiple tournament wins across Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.

In 2008, Shane was invited to join the Fisheries Management Zone 20 Advisory Council, where he continues to serve—helping shape the future of the fishery he loves.

On the water, safety and professionalism are top priorities. Shane holds certifications as a Small Commercial Vessel Operator, Marine Emergency Duties, Marine First Aid, and Marine Radio Operator with DSC. He has also completed advanced boating courses through the Canadian Power Squadron.

Off the water, Shane is a husband and father of two, an active member of his community, and a Project Management Professional with a background in Geographic Information Systems and Aquaculture Technology. When he’s not guiding trips, he works with the City of Hamilton’s Public Works Department and stays involved in public speaking through Toastmasters.

Fishing with Shane means learning from someone who has dedicated his life to the Great Lakes—both on the water and behind the scenes.
