When it comes to offshore fishing in Cape Town, a full day tuna trip with Captain Byron gives you a true shot at some of the most sought-after pelagics these waters have to offer. You’ll head out in the early morning and run up to 20 miles offshore, depending on conditions, searching the deep blue for active fish and favorable water.

With more than 40 years of experience fishing off the Cape, Captain Byron understands that tuna fishing is as much about patience and persistence as it is about power and speed. From working temperature breaks and bird life to locating bait schools, every move is calculated to give you the best opportunity at quality fish on any given day.

Seasonally, you may encounter Yellowfin Tuna, Longfin (Albacore), Bigeye Tuna, and Skipjack, along with Bonito and Yellowtail. Some days the fish are feeding high in the water column, other days they hold deeper or require covering ground to find them. That’s the nature of offshore fishing—and part of what makes every trip a genuine adventure.

Trolling is a key technique for locating tuna and covering water efficiently, and once fish are found, you may switch things up depending on their behavior. Heavy tackle setups are provided and ready for battle, and drift fishing or deep sea techniques may come into play when conditions allow. Spinning gear is available onboard, and anglers who prefer jigging or popping are welcome to bring their own specialized equipment.

The boat is equipped with modern GPS and fishfinding electronics to help locate productive water and structure offshore. Quality rods, reels, and tackle are included, and the crew will guide you through every step—from setting lines to managing the fight and handling your catch. Any fish kept for your own consumption can be cleaned and prepared after the trip.

Everything is included, but we also recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, and anything else you might want on the trip.

You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.

We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).

Cancel for free up to 5 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 5 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.

In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.

Additional costs may include leases, marina or slip fees, and the expenses involved in providing and maintaining the necessary gear for your trip.
