About Your Trip

Head out of St. Augustine with Captain Tony for a nearshore fishing trip that explores productive waters roughly just off the beach, where reefs, wrecks, rock piles, and bait schools come together to create consistent action without running far offshore.

These trips are all about versatility and reading conditions close to shore. Depending on the day, you may start by trolling live bait or lures along the beach and nearshore structure, covering water in search of fast-moving fish pushing bait in the shallows. When the focus shifts to bottom fishing, Captain Tony may anchor or drift over nearshore reefs and artificial reefs where fish stack up around hard structure. Light tackle presentations, jigging, and live bait rigs are all commonly used to match what the fish are responding to in real time.

Captain Tony adjusts throughout the trip based on tides, wind, water clarity, and bait movement, focusing efforts where the bite is most active that day. Nearshore waters around St. Augustine can be especially dynamic, with changing conditions often influencing how and where fish are feeding.

Depending on season and conditions, possible species in these nearshore waters include king mackerel, cobia, tarpon, jacks, snapper, grouper, triggerfish, shark, and more. The variety keeps each trip different, with opportunities to switch tactics and target multiple species as conditions evolve.

You will be fishing aboard a 24-foot pair custom center console designed for nearshore comfort, stability, and fishability. The open layout allows easy movement while trolling, casting, or bottom fishing, and the boat is equipped with modern electronics to help locate bait and structure close to shore.

All rods, reels, tackle, and bait are provided. Just bring snacks, drinks, and weather-appropriate gear for a full day on the water with Captain Tony.

Captain Tony is USCG certified and insured, with more than 25 years of fishing and boating experience.

Growing up on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina, Tony spent a lot of his time on the water. Whether fishing with friends or enjoying time with his family at the sand bar, if Tony was on the water he was happy. Since joining the U.S. Navy in 2005 and now with a family of his own, little has changed and the enjoyment of being on the water has only grown as he passes the knowledge, fun and love of the water on to his daughter.

Captain Tony is a proud U.S. Navy veteran who honorably served for 20 years. Throughout his distinguished career, he traveled the globe as a C-130T Loadmaster and Flight Engineer, playing a vital role in countless missions that spanned continents. His time in the Navy was marked by adventure, purpose, and deep camaraderie. From delivering critical supplies to remote regions to supporting operations around the world, Captain Tony describes his military career as both rewarding and extraordinary. Now retired, he reflects on his service with pride and gratitude for the experiences and the people he encountered along the way.

Cancel for free up to 3 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 3 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.
