About Your Trip

Experience Washington's Skagit River with Captain Andrew on a private salmon fishing trip built for just 1 or 2 anglers. A lifelong Skagit Valley local, Andrew guides exclusively on the river he grew up fishing and keeps his trips small so he can focus his attention on your group, the conditions, and making the most of the day.

The Skagit supports several seasonal salmon runs, so your target will depend on when you fish. Coho
are a fall favorite, while Chinook arrive earlier in the season and Sockeye provide another summertime opportunity. On odd-numbered years, Pink Salmon can bring another run into the river. Dolly Varden, Bull Trout, and Steelhead are also occasionally encountered while salmon fishing and are generally treated as incidental catch.

Andrew adjusts his approach based on the species, river conditions, and what's been working. All rods, tackle, flies or bait needed for the day's fishing are provided. He fishes quality Washington-made Lamiglas rods paired with Shimano reels, but you're welcome to bring your own equipment if you have a setup you prefer.

You'll fish from Andrew's 18' Wooldridge Alaskan LT powered by a Mercury jet. Its shallow draft and compact design allow him to navigate different stretches of the Skagit while still providing plenty of open fishing space for two guests and their gear.

Rather than building every outing around a rigid clock, Andrew prefers to shape the trip around the day and the experience you're looking for. Launch locations can vary with the season and conditions, with trips potentially departing from Mount Vernon, Burlington, Sedro-Woolley, or Rockport. Start times generally fall between 4:00 and 8:00 AM and can have some flexibility depending on your group and the fishery.

Families and younger anglers are welcome. When conditions allow, Andrew may accommodate a third youth angler.

You'll need to bring a valid Washington fishing license and Salmon Catch Record Card, weather-appropriate clothing, a waterproof jacket, food and drinks for the day, and a cooler for your catch. At the end of the trip, Andrew will fillet and bag your salmon at no additional charge.

Come fish the Skagit with a local and experience one of Washington's great salmon rivers with a trip built around you!

Captain Andrew is a lifelong Skagit Valley local who grew up fishing the Skagit River, Puget Sound, and the area's lakes. Fishing, hunting, crabbing, and clamming have been part of his life since childhood, and today he enjoys sharing those same outdoor traditions with his wife and two kids.

A Navy submarine veteran, Andrew was stationed at Pearl Harbor before returning to Washington. He holds a physics degree from Western Washington University and has also built a professional career in
boatbuilding right in Skagit County.

Most of Andrew's fishing experience centers around the Skagit River, a fishery he continues to study and refine his approach to each season. His guiding philosophy is centered around small groups, personal attention, and adapting the day to current conditions rather than simply watching the clock. Whether you're an experienced salmon angler, fishing the Skagit for the first time, or introducing your kids to fishing, Andrew aims to provide a laid-back, welcoming experience while sharing the waters he calls home.

If you were cooking for all your friends what would you cook?
Usually something cool. I dunno what, I make it up as I go, but I love cooking.
What’s your favorite band?
So many to choose from...
What’s your favorite movie?
Oh man I'm a nerd, so may be the Star Wars trilogy?
What’s your favorite sports team?
The Seahawks!
What’s your drink of choice?
A good, cold beer.
What was your last halloween costume?
I don't remember...
What do you want for Christmas this year?
Fishing gear.
How did you get started guiding?
Pressure from friends and my own self desire.
What makes you different from other guides?
I keep it small and personal. My boat is 18 feet and works well with three of us onboard. It also allows me to run good quality rods such as Lamiglas Infinity rods without cost concerns. I also only fish the Skagit, so it's a river I am getting to know quite well.
