About Your Trip

On this trip, you'll launch from one of the coolest marinas in the Florida Keys. Even the marina here is packed with Tarpon! You'll be able to watch 100-pound Tarpon cruising right next to the dock while you board Captain Mike's Action Craft skiff.

Once on board, you'll discuss the game plan for the day. Whether you want to try for the inshore "grand slam" of a Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit, and Snook, or if you
want to fish for dinner, Captain Mike does it all and is willing to accommodate any technique you wish to use. He comes prepared, and will provide you with all the rods, tackle, live bait, or artificial lures you will need for a successful day out on the water.

If you decide to chase the sport fish, Captain Mike will use his knowledge of the tides and weather to take you to the best Tarpon, Bonefish, or Permit flats in the area. On these beautiful clear water flats, Captain Mike will use his wireless trolling motor to stealthily sneak you across the flat to sightcast right to the fish!

If you choose to bag some gamefish, Capt. Mike will put his 30+ years of experience to work taking you to all the secret channels, mangroves islands, and "honey holes" to help you catch your limits on delicious species including Mangrove Snapper, Redfish, Gag Grouper, and more.

Plus, if fly fishing is your game of choice, Captain Mike just asks that you bring your own gear. He can also provide his own flies and fly rods as backup. Besides that, all you need to bring is your food and drink of choice, sunglasses, and a hat, and Captain Mike will take care of the rest on your Florida Keys fishing adventure!

Independent Guide 43 years of exp.
Capt. Mike was born in Baltimore Maryland and raised in Westminster. Mike began fishing in a small stream behind his house at the age of 4. Growing up in Maryland gave him many opportunities to fish in ponds, streams, lakes, the Atlantic Ocean, and let’s not forget the Chesapeake Bay.

Mike’s career choice was an electrician but at the age of 26 Mike had a terrible accident, he fell through a roof that was up 30 feet and broke his
neck. After a lot of luck and rehab, Mike realized that the time had had left in this big beautiful world was now on borrowed time and wanted to live his life to the fullest each and every day forward. With his love for the water, Mike changed his career and learned to scuba dive and soon became a dive instructor. With his knowledge for fishing and love for the water he moved to Islamorada, diving in the Florida Keys. He ran a dive shop and soon after bought an offshore boat and started a fishing charter business. Mike realized he really enjoys sharing his knowledge and passion of fishing with others, he loves meeting new and exciting friends, and besides, it’s not so bad to have your office under the big blue sky and nothing but water all around you.

Sailfish became his fish of choice. Mike competed in every tournament in town and won 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in almost every tournament that he competed in. So, then it was time to try backcountry and flats fishing, after 1 year Mike sold his off shore boat and became a full time backcountry fishing guide, winning many backcountry tournaments and is still backcountry fishing today.

Mike has had the opportunity to be a fishing guide for a past president, sports heroes, actors, senators and some very interesting fishermen and enjoys every minute of it. You could sit for hours and hear all the interesting stories that Mike has to offer about events, people, and some pretty interesting situations he has come to find himself in. This is what led Mike to The American Outdoorsman and is very honored to be a member of the “Pro Staff”. He is looking forward to bringing his passion and knowledge of fishing to The American Outdoorsman.

Mike has been a fishing guide for about 42 years now. He made a full recovery from his near-death accident and by looking at him today you would never know that it even happened. He continues to live his life to the fullest and is thankful for every day he has!

Capt. Mike's guide service consists of 3 boats, a 22’ Pathfinder, a 19’ Action Craft and a 22’ Triton. Located in the Florida Keys at Robbie’s Marina, 77522 Overseas Hwy, Islamorada, FL 33036 (mile marker 77.5). Capt. Mike has 2 Captains working for him. He offers a ½ day (4 Hrs), ¾ day (6 Hrs) and Full day (8 Hrs) fishing charters in the beautiful Backcountry and Ocean Flats of the Florida Keys. Families & kids are welcome. There is a selection of fly rods and spinning tackles to help you catch the finest bonefish, tarpon, shark, permit, snapper, snook, trout, and redfish.

Had a great time with Captain Chris today. Caught a lot of fish and had a lot of laughs. Had an unforeseen technical issue but Captains Mike and Chris took care of it with grace and humor. We’ll be back.

Great work Captain Phil. Had a good time on the boat and caught fish all through the 8 hour day. Even when the bite slowed down captain phil ran all over to get back on the bite. We had our trout limit within the first hour of the fishing. He showed me allot of tips for casting under mangroves. Looking forward to another trip soon.

Great trip today. Weather turned out perfectly. Capt. Phil did a great job getting us into the mangroves for some beautiful snapper. A bonus is having our fresh snapper for lunch cooked to perfection in Robbie’s restaurant. Capt Phil recommended the Thai style for the snapper. Extra Primo Good.

All in all a wonderful trip. Highly recommended.

Captain Mike is the Bomb! With over 30 years of experience Captain Mike, who usually likes to bait fish around Islamorada, was more than willing to take us flyfishing, and even had an extra reel when ours got jammed. He showed us around some beautiful tarpon and permit flats and we got tons of good shots at giant tarpon and permit. Capt. Mike clearly does it all, and his experience is hard to rival down...
